Newcastle United star Nick Woltemade scored twice for Germany as they took a major step towards qualification for the 2026 World Cup. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Woltemade<\/a>\u00a0bagged his ninth and tenth goals of the season for club and country, scoring the\u00a0opener\u00a0for Germany against Luxembourg on Friday night before bagging his brace after the interval.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The result, coupled with Northern Ireland\u2019s loss to Slovakia, guarantees Germany at least a place in the play-offs. <\/p>\n

On this kind of form, it seems\u00a0very\u00a0likely\u00a0that the Newcastle United<\/a> star will be the man to lead Germany into\u00a0their\u00a0World Cup campaign.\u00a0Given he was playing in the third-tier not too long ago, that is quite the achievement.<\/p>\n

Indeed, his meteoric rise in recent years shows little sign of slowing down and here\u2019s how the German media reacted. <\/p>\n

A rather unconvincing win over a minnow was hardly ever going to be celebrated by a nation with as strong a football heritage as Germany. <\/p>\n

Still, as one can imagine after bagging a brace,\u00a0Woltemade\u00a0did get his share of plaudits from some media outlets.\u00a0Many of them were suggesting he alone was the man to save them from a damaging result.<\/p>\n

Sky Sports Germany<\/a> wrote: \u201cWoltemade saves Germany.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sport<\/a>, meanwhile, wrote: \u201cWoltemade saves DFB team.\u201d<\/p>\n

NTV<\/a> added: \u201cGermany can rely on Nick Woltemade. The Newcastle United striker was once again the match-winner for the German national team against Luxembourg, putting them on the brink of World Cup qualification. And what about the rest of the team? Phew.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Nick Woltemade can confirm qualification for the 2026 World Cup <\/p>\n

Woltemade has struggled at Newcastle in recent weeks<\/a> but could return to Tyneside off the back of a major boost. <\/p>\n

Indeed, if Germany beat Slovakia on Monday night, they will have confirmed their place at next summer\u2019s tournament. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s\u00a0quite the showdown, with Slovakia also in contention to win Group A should they overcome their hosts at the start of next week.<\/p>\n

Woltemade\u2019s goals have been crucial for Germany during this campaign. <\/p>\n

While he\u2019s not always convinced in his homeland it seems, he also bagged a crucial winner against Northern Ireland earlier this season. <\/p>\n
