Photo credit: Joshua Brandwood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"aiir-c-news-article__abstract\">\n            A main road through Lancaster city centre has been closed off and staff from nearby shops evacuated after a suspicious package was found.\n        <\/p>\n<p>A bomb disposal team was called on Monday after a report at 6.32am that the suspicious package had been discovered near a property.<\/p>\n<p>Police cordoned off Great John Street between the junctions of Moor Lane and Brock Street, later extended to George Street, on the one-way system, and a diversion along Moor Lane was in place.<\/p>\n<p>Ffrances Passage was also sealed off to pedestrians,\u00a0 and Brock Street was also blocked off by police to traffic heading onto Great John Street\/Thurnham Street later on Monday morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There are delays around North Road, Caton Road, Owen Road and Skerton Bridge as a result.<\/p>\n<p>Staff at St Nicholas Arcades shopping centre and other nearby businesses were evacuated and their premises closed while the incident has been ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency vehicles are on the scene.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/680f2c977a10e.jpg\" style=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We currently have a cordon in place in Lancaster Gate, Lancaster,&#8221; said a Lancaster Police spokesperson.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This was following a report we received at 6.32am that a suspicious package had been found near to a property.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Colleagues from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team are on their way and we ask people to avoid the area as a precaution.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will provide an update when we can.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/680f3343cb71f.jpg\" style=\"\"\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Police on Great John Street in Lancaster on Monday morning.
