The Spanish national team has only theoretically secured its ticket to next year’s World Cup with today’s victory over Georgia<\/a> \u2013 in the direct encounter, however, Turkey would have to win on Tuesday by an actually practically impossible number of goals to snatch the group victory away.<\/p>\n

With the win against Georgia<\/a>, Luis de la Fuente’s team at least matched its own record: the Spaniards are now unbeaten in 30 competitive matches. Until now, the record was held by Vicente del Bosque’s Spanish side, which won both a World Cup and a European Championship between 2010 and 2013. Back then, with players like Xavi, Iniesta, and Puyol.<\/p>\n

And now, the current Spanish team is keeping up with them: The last defeat came more than two and a half (!) years ago \u2013 in March 2023 against Scotland. Since then, \u201cLa Roja\u201d has celebrated 15 qualification victories and won two titles with the Nations League and the European Championship.<\/p>\n

Much like back then, Spain<\/a> usually plays enchanting football and operates like a machine: leaders such as Rodri<\/a>, Laporte, Carvajal, and Morata set the tone, while the young guns around Lamine Yamal<\/a> and Nico Williams<\/a> embody the future, provide creative attacking power, and make Spanish football a spectacle.<\/p>\n

The full star power was not on display today, but there was never any doubt about the victory over Georgia<\/a> \u2013 marking the next step toward the record. With their 30th consecutive unbeaten match, Spain<\/a> is closing in on a European all-time record. That record is currently held by Italy, with 31 competitive matches without defeat.<\/p>\n
