{"id":572931,"date":"2025-11-15T23:02:18","date_gmt":"2025-11-15T23:02:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/572931\/"},"modified":"2025-11-15T23:02:18","modified_gmt":"2025-11-15T23:02:18","slug":"former-uk-prime-minister-liz-truss-backs-trump-over-bbc-video-scandal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/572931\/","title":{"rendered":"Former UK Prime Minister Liz Truss backs Trump over BBC video scandal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former United Kingdom Prime Minister Liz Truss is backing <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/10\/us-news\/trump-lashes-out-at-corrupt-dishonest-bbc-after-bosses-resign-over-doctored-jan-6-speech-footage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">President\u00a0Donald Trump\u2019s\u00a0plan to sue the BBC<\/a>, saying, \u201cthey\u2019ve lied, they\u2019ve cheated, they\u2019ve fiddled with footage\u201d as the network faces fallout from an editing scandal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/03\/us-news\/bbc-materially-misled-viewers-by-deceptively-editing-trump-jan-6-speech-for-documentary-whistleblower\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BBC is accused of combining two different parts of Trump\u2019s Jan. 6, 2021, speech<\/a>. They removed his call to march \u201cpeacefully and patriotically\u201d and instead inserted the phrase \u201cfight like hell\u201d from nearly an hour later in the address.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are lots of people in Britain who are cheering President Trump on and who want him to sue the BBC because they\u2019re a huge problem,\u201d said Truss on\u00a0\u201cFox &amp; Friends Weekend\u201d\u00a0Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Now, Trump said he feels \u201cobligated\u201d to sue the British broadcaster for tampering with the footage. He\u2019s threatened to sue the BBC for $1 billion in damages.<\/p>\n<p>The BBC apologized to Trump and said it has no plans to rebroadcast the Panorama documentary titled \u201cTrump: A Second Chance?\u201d with the edited clips.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/09\/world-news\/bbc-head-tim-davie-resigns-over-doctored-footage-of-trumps-jan-6-speech-in-documentary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BBC Director-General Tim Davie<\/a>\u00a0and BBC News CEO Deborah Turness both resigned in the wake of the backlash.<\/p>\n<p>A BBC spokesperson said the company\u2019s chair, Samir Shah, has \u201cseparately sent a personal letter to the White House making clear to President Trump that he and the corporation are sorry for the edit of the president\u2019s speech on 6 January 2021, which featured in the programme.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The network, however, is rejecting Trump\u2019s calls for compensation.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the apology, Truss believes the president should still move forward with\u00a0legal action.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. President Donald Trump welcomes Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the White House for a meeting, in Washington, D.C., U.S., on September 29, 2025.  Allison Bailey\/NurPhoto\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to see him progress with this legal suit because I don\u2019t think they\u2019ve been held to account,\u201d Truss said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI bet they carry on printing and publishing and broadcasting fake news, not just about the president, but about the MAGA movement, about the changes that are going on in the world, which many of the British public want to see here in Britain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Truss accused the BBC of being\u00a0politically biased against conservatives\u00a0in both the United Kingdom and the United States. She also called for the network to be \u201cdefunded.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe BBC used to be the paragon of journalism across the world. It was respected. It\u2019s now become a laughingstock, and it needs to be put out of its misery,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the apology, Truss believes the president should still move forward with\u00a0legal action. SOPA Images\/LightRocket via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett shared Truss\u2019s view, saying an apology is not enough and\u00a0calling for compensation from the BBC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was clearly\u00a0defamatory under British law.
