A POPULAR chippy in Edinburgh has been named the best newcomer at a prestigious awards ceremony.<\/p>\n

Landy\u2019s Fish & Chips located near the Royal Mile in the capital scooped the top gong at the Scottish Fish and Chip Awards.<\/p>\n

The awards were set up three years ago to honour the top superb offerings, produce and people in the trade.<\/p>\n

Regarded as the\u00a0Oscars<\/a>\u00a0of the chippy world, each accolade begins with public nominations, where anyone can suggest their favourite for consideration.<\/p>\n

Then there is a round of voting before finalist lists are drawn up, and then judges visit, sample and rate every shop and item before deciding most of the awards.<\/p>\n

And it was Landy\u2019s Fish & Chips that scooped Best Newcomer at the awards last Sunday.<\/p>\n

NOBODY DOES IT BATTER<\/p>\n

I tested best fish and chips in capital of British national dish<\/p>\n

Honourable mentions included Loch Clash Larder in Kinlochbervie, in the Highlands, and Tarradale Chippy & Auld Sweetie Shop, Muir Of Ord, Easter Ross.<\/p>\n

Staff at the Edinburgh<\/a> chippy say the venue is \u201cinspired by memories of the class British seaside holiday.<\/p>\n

They serve up \u201cperfectly crispy fish to classic chip shop specials with a twist on Edinburgh\u2019s famous chippy sauce\u201d.<\/p>\n

The venue opened its doors for the first time back in December last year.<\/p>\n

And it already boasts four out of five stars on Tripadvisor<\/a>, one customer said: \u201cAbsolutely lovely, we had fish and chips to take away. <\/p>\n

\u201cLovely staff, probably one of the best tasting fish and chips.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another wrote: \u201cFirst time trying Landy\u2019s. Won\u2019t be the last, nice food and excellent service.\u201d<\/p>\n

While a third added: \u201cExcellent fish and chips at this restaurant. Couldn\u2019t fault.\u201d<\/p>\n

Warren Paul, Awards Director and Founder, said: \u201cThis event is really special to us and to all the entrants and winners, because it was set up for all the right reasons.<\/p>\n

\u201cI created the Scottish Fish and Chip Awards because no one was working to give these everyday heroes and heroines of the food world the platform and spotlight they deserve.<\/p>\n
