Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> were stopped from signing Duncan Watmore in the summer but could revisit that deal now, while Watmore is training with League One Stockport County<\/a>, according to Alan Nixon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sheffield Wednesday<\/a>\u2019s administrators have made a major stride in their bid for financial stability, clearing several outstanding debts and seeing FIFA-imposed transfer restrictions lifted. It represents a crucial step forward as the club works to rebuild after a turbulent spell.<\/p>\n

The debts were paid using funds generated by a surge in supporter backing, with increased attendances at Hillsborough and strong club shop sales proving vital. This progress follows Dejphon Chansiri\u2019s decision to place the club into administration<\/a>, ending his 10-year reign and giving fans renewed optimism that administrator Kris Wigfield can soon secure a new buyer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wednesday have now been handed another significant boost, with the EFL granting approval for the club to sign free agents<\/a>. SWFC will be permitted to add two free agents to strengthen their squad, and one looks close to arriving.<\/p>\n

One of those free signings could be Duncan Watmore after a move for him fell through<\/a> in the summer. According to Alan Nixon via his Patreon<\/a>, Watmore is currently training with League table-toppers Stockport County<\/a> as he waits for an offer from SWFC.<\/p>\n

Watmore could be an astute pickup for Sheffield Wednesday<\/a><\/p>\n

Fitness concerns often arise when signing free agents mid-season, but that shouldn\u2019t be a major issue with Watmore. And even if it were, Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> have little alternative if they want to strengthen the squad.<\/p>\n

Watmore should be in better condition than many unattached players thanks to his pre-season spell with Blackpool<\/a>, which allowed him to keep training regularly. He would still need time to regain full match sharpness, but that will naturally develop with minutes.<\/p>\n

With Pedersen\u2019s squad stretched thin, adding a versatile player like Watmore could be hugely beneficial. He is capable of operating anywhere across the front three, giving the Danish boss crucial flexibility both in matches and from the bench.<\/p>\n

His Championship experience is another key asset. Not only does he know the level well, but he has proven he can score goals in the division too.<\/p>\n

One of the two free agent deals Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> are set to make appears to be Liam Cooper. It was reported earlier this week that SWFC are set to sign Cooper after the deal fell through in the summer.<\/p>\n

Much like Watmore, Cooper was set to sign for the club before the embargoes hit in the summer window. Another free agent that has been linked with Wednesday is Timothy Fosu Mensah<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The versatile defender is has been without a club for over a year and is formerly of Manchester United.
