Life after Jurgen Klopp\u2019s departure has not been as bad as many fans feared.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Reds were very much doubters until Klopp<\/a> arrived, with the German turning them into believers, something that has stayed the same since he left.<\/p>\n

At the time, though, everyone associated with the club was a little worried, with most fearful that their period of success would be over. <\/p>\n

However, this was not the case and Arne Slot<\/a> came in and won the Premier League at the first time of asking, with the changes behind the scenes clearly working.<\/p>\n

In fact, there was one in particular that owners FSG<\/a> were adamant about making after the German left, with this proving to be one of the biggest reasons for their continued success.<\/p>\n

There are so many jobs behind the scenes that fans do not perhaps realise just how important they are.<\/p>\n

Sporting directors are people, though, who are starting to get more credit, with Liverpool\u2019s<\/a> being Richard Hughes<\/a>, which was once a job done by Michael Edwards<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Edwards, however, was very key to Liverpool\u2019s plans once before, and with Klopp leaving, FSG were adamant that they had to get him back in a more senior role.<\/p>\n

\u201cSpeaking to lots of people who were involved in that in terms of what went on behind the scenes, all those discussions were about the handover in terms of Michael Edwards coming back,\u201d journalist James Pearce told the Kop On! Podcast<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat is it about Michael Edwards is that FSG, Liverpool\u2019s owners, were so, you know, their plan A, their plan B, their plan C was get Michael Edwards back, it has to be him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Liverpool\u2019s desperation to get him clearly worked as he is now CEO of Football at the club, meaning he oversees all transfers and appointments at the club.<\/p>\n

Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes are a good team<\/p>\n

Although Edwards oversees it all, Hughes does most of the \u2018dirty work\u2019 and negotiations in deals, as seen over the summer. <\/p>\n

Of course, it is all under the guidance of Edwards, but the Reds\u2019 sporting director still has a lot to do, with the pair a very good team.<\/p>\n

This was shown just this summer with the number of top signings they have made, even if most are yet to prove their worth.<\/p>\n
