But after a long tribunal battle, new owner John McIlvogue and backers won the case against the Insolvency Service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"dailyrecord\">McIlvogue said awarding the redundancy costs against his Phoenix Volt Ltd <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/inside-mortons-rolls-baker-gets-29493746\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"firm Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">firm <\/a>would have plunged the business into insolvency again. The ex-Livingston FC owner added: \u201cIt\u2019s a weight off my mind and we can now focus on expansion plans without this hanging over us.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"dailyrecord\">&#8220;It was ludicrous for the UK Government to take such a stance when the redundancy payments all related to the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/mortons-rolls-employees-preparing-sue-29462796\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"company Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">company <\/a>that \u00adpreviously owned the business. He said he was relieved ex-staff could finally be paid from the \u00adGovernment\u2019s Redundancy Payment Service. He said: \u201cAfter two years in limbo, finally, the former employees of <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/inside-mortons-rolls-baker-gets-29493746\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Morton\u2019s RollsLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Morton\u2019s Rolls<\/a> will receive their long overdue redundancy payments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" responsibility for legacy redundancy payments from when <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/inside-mortons-rolls-baker-gets-29493746\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Morton\u2019s Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Morton\u2019s <\/a>fell into administration did not rest with Phoenix Volt Ltd, the UK Government lawyers decided to challenge that decision and needlessly drew out the process for two years \u2013 delaying the payments to former employees, many of whom have been left in dire straits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"dailyrecord\">&#8220;I am pleased the decision to throw out the appeal puts this long-running saga to bed, allowing <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/inside-mortons-rolls-baker-gets-29493746\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Morton\u2019s Rolls Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Morton\u2019s Rolls <\/a>to move forward with confidence and to invest in the Drumchapel bakery, growing the size of the workforce.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"dailyrecord\">Paul Sweeney MSP, who played a key role in facilitating the original rescue bid, said: \u201cI am pleased to finally see the resolution of this dispute which has kept redundancy payments out of the bank accounts of former <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/mortons-rolls-employees-preparing-sue-29462796\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Morton\u2019s RollsLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Morton\u2019s Rolls<\/a> employees across Glasgow for more than two years
