\n The pair of sibling birds, Britain\u2019s largest native birds of prey, arrived from the Welsh Mountain Zoo and will live in a newly built aviary at the park.\n<\/p>\n
\n The eagles are part of a conservation project supporting the reintroduction of the species to Cumbria.\n<\/p>\n
\n Richard Robinson, park manager at the Lake District Wildlife Park, said: “We are delighted to finally welcome these magnificent birds to the Park as part of an important project for the reintroduction of the White Tailed Eagle.\n<\/p>\n
\n “A huge amount of work has gone on behind the scenes to complete the construction of their aviary.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Every detail, from choosing the correct netting and installing the huge timber poles, has been a huge task.\n<\/p>\n
\n “We hope that they will settle in soon, and we wholeheartedly support the projects to conserve and reintroduce these birds to further areas of the UK.”\n<\/p>\n
\n White-tailed eagles, once widespread in Britain, saw their numbers decline due to persecution and habitat loss.\n<\/p>\n
\n They have been successfully reintroduced to Scotland, the Isle of Wight, and Ireland.\n<\/p>\n
\n A similar project, led by the Lifescapes Project, aims to reintroduce the species to Cumbria.\n<\/p>\n
\n The two eagles will also contribute to the European Endangered Species Programme once they reach maturity.\n<\/p>\n
\n Reaction to their arrival has been mixed.\n<\/p>\n
\n Steven Hunt said: “Majestic undoubtedly and would live to see them where they belong, free, not enclosed but are we not putting them at risk from shooting and poisoning, once they are free.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Like I say, would make a real huge deal to witness them, but not everyone wants them sadly.”\n<\/p>\n
