{"id":576042,"date":"2025-11-17T11:30:20","date_gmt":"2025-11-17T11:30:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/576042\/"},"modified":"2025-11-17T11:30:20","modified_gmt":"2025-11-17T11:30:20","slug":"south-carolina-goes-farther-with-charters-mackinac-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/576042\/","title":{"rendered":"South Carolina goes farther with charters \u2013 Mackinac Center"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Oklahoma should get tax reform\u00a0sooner rather than later<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An ambitious framework for reform of property taxes appears to have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oklegislature.gov\/BillInfo.aspx?Bill=HB1880&amp;Session=2500\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stalled<\/a> in the state legislature, but the\u00a0Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs notes many recent improvements in state tax laws and <a href=\"https:\/\/ocpathink.org\/post\/analysis\/how-oklahoma-can-deliver-property-tax-relief-the-smart-way\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">suggests reforms<\/a> that could help the Sooner State\u2019s housing market. \u201cOklahoma could also consider lowering its annual valuation-growth cap below the current 3 percent limit,\u201d writes Curtis Shelton. \u201cBecause a property\u2019s taxable fair-cash value cannot currently increase more than 3 percent per year, reducing that cap could further protect homeowners in fast-growing markets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>What has Josh Shapiro done?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro ran on a \u201cGet sh*t done\u201d platform, but a new <a href=\"https:\/\/commonwealthfoundation.org\/research\/josh-shapiro-least-productive-pennsylvania-governor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> calls him the state\u2019s \u201cleast productive governor\u201d in at least the last 50 years. \u201cIn recent weeks, media outlets, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.proofpoint.com\/v2\/url?u=https-3A__www.post-2Dgazette.com_news_politics-2Dstate_2025_10_12_pennsylvania-2Dbudget-2Dshapiro-2D1_stories_202510100051&amp;d=DwMFaQ&amp;c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&amp;r=vkRYxmwemm9HCwdcu2wv3n4oy5ssJeFX0MokIXzE-R8&amp;m=K59nf2hJ-juRlzIkhPPOaw9QoZf_qx4E2qyhr8Texr9MCdLMrHZgB6MIbHLjywOY&amp;s=DgYK6VT2uZ5gKvKd5sCCFrGdmqhqb-z6xx4-aa_Gv48&amp;e=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pittsburgh Post-Gazette<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.proofpoint.com\/v2\/url?u=https-3A__www.phillymag.com_influential-2Dphiladelphians_&amp;d=DwMFaQ&amp;c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&amp;r=vkRYxmwemm9HCwdcu2wv3n4oy5ssJeFX0MokIXzE-R8&amp;m=K59nf2hJ-juRlzIkhPPOaw9QoZf_qx4E2qyhr8Texr9MCdLMrHZgB6MIbHLjywOY&amp;s=R2ZyCLFl6bwDvwi1-d3unZbNNFwCDVtdC9DyphmzgSo&amp;e=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Philadelphia Magazine<\/a>, noted Shapiro\u2019s inability to match his legislative actions to his often-quoted slogan,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/commonwealthfoundation.org\/2025\/11\/10\/shapiro-get-sht-done-slogan-doesnt-match-record\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">writes<\/a> the Commonwealth Foundation. \u201cAs observed by a <a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.proofpoint.com\/v2\/url?u=https-3A__x.com_StephenJ-5FCaruso_status_1982929639703191673&amp;d=DwMFaQ&amp;c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&amp;r=vkRYxmwemm9HCwdcu2wv3n4oy5ssJeFX0MokIXzE-R8&amp;m=K59nf2hJ-juRlzIkhPPOaw9QoZf_qx4E2qyhr8Texr9MCdLMrHZgB6MIbHLjywOY&amp;s=mjaeMjZ6ILd1UTwixzbl7NOnxxfYOlDbMaqzKt_wjgQ&amp;e=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">state capitol reporter<\/a>, Governor Shapiro had a 98-day gap between his latest bill signings, neither of which addressed the ongoing budget impasse.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><strong>South Carolina charter schools overperform<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A new study of state education records indicates that South Carolina charter schools are substantially outperforming traditional schools in preparing students for college and careers. \u201cAmong graduates, <b>32.47%<\/b> of public charter school district students were considered college ready, compared to <b>30.48%<\/b> of students in traditional districts,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/palmettopromise.org\/proof-of-promise-data-suggests-charter-schools-are-preparing-students-for-life-beyond-the-classroom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">writes<\/a> Ray Dellinger, director of education policy at Palmetto Promise. \u201cLikewise, <b>29.63%<\/b> of charter students were both college <b>and<\/b> career ready, edging out the <b>28.6%<\/b> of traditional public school students who met that mark.
