Despite the urgency, Pistorius rejected speculation about an\u00a0immediate danger but said Germany must treat the coming years as\u00a0decisive: strengthening deterrence, expanding reserves, improving infrastructure, and preparing for the possibility that Russia could once again test NATO\u2019s resolve, according to\u00a0FAZ.<\/p>\n
Previously, it\u00a0was reported that Germany\u2019s coalition partners announced<\/a> a\u00a0compromise over new rules on\u00a0military service\u2014a key step in\u00a0the country\u2019s broader effort to\u00a0rebuild its armed forces after decades of\u00a0downsizing, Reuters reported.<\/p>\n
The model, agreed by\u00a0Chancellor Friedrich Merz\u2019s conservatives and the centre-left Social Democrats, establishes a\u00a0hybrid system built around voluntary service with the option of\u00a0a\u00a0mandatory call-up if\u00a0needed.<\/p>\n
