Manchester United<\/a> rejected the chance to sign one of Mauricio Pochettino<\/a>\u2019s Chelsea<\/a> signings as they negotiated a deal for Alejandro Garnacho<\/a>.<\/p>\n Chelsea paid \u00a340m to sign Argentina international Garnacho<\/a> from Premier League<\/a> rivals United last summer.<\/p>\n Garnacho was once viewed as one of the most exciting players at Old Trafford<\/a> but Ruben Amorim<\/a> sanctioned his departure after growing frustrated with his form and attitude off the pitch<\/a>.<\/p>\n Chelsea were in talks with Manchester United for a number of months before finally agreeing a deal at the end of August.<\/p>\n The Blues were unwilling to meet United\u2019s initial asking price of around \u00a360m<\/a> and tried to offer a number of players to the Red Devils as bait in the deal.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\tGet personalised updates on Manchester United every day\t\t\t<\/p>\n Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro\u2019s Football Newsletter. <\/p>\n Sign up to our newsletter<\/a> and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. <\/p>\n According to ESPN<\/a>, one the players Chelsea offered was Romeo Lavia but United turned down the opportunity due to concerns over his fitness record.<\/p>\n Chelsea spent \u00a358m to sign Lavia from Southampton in 2023<\/a> when Pochettino was in charge at Stamford Bridge.<\/p>\n \t\t Such was the level of interest in Lavia, Premier League rivals Liverpool were left disappointed by his decision to move to west London<\/a>.<\/p>\n It may well have been a blessing in disguise, however, as Lavia has struggled badly with reoccurring injury issues since arriving at Stamford Bridge<\/a>.<\/p>\n Lavia was limited to just one appearance during his first season at Chelsea and only played 16 league games last term.<\/p>\n The 21-year-old\u2019s poor injury record has seen him slip down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, with Enzo Maresca only handing him one start in the Premier League this season.<\/p>\n Manchester United rejected the chance to sign Lavia despite Amorim wanting to bolster his midfield options in the summer<\/a>.<\/p>\n United are being linked with Brighton\u2019s Carlos Baleba, Nottingham Forest\u2019s Elliot Anderson and Atletico Madrid\u2019s Conor Gallagher ahead of the January transfer window but ESPN say they will wait until the summer to bring in midfield reinforcements.<\/p>\n Garnacho endured an underwhelming start to his Chelsea career, going six games without a goal or an assist.<\/p>\n But the United academy graduate scored two goals and made a further two assists in Chelsea\u2019s last four games before the international break.<\/p>\n Ex-Chelsea midfielder Steve Sidwell has backed Garnacho to develop into \u2018one of the best players in Europe\u2019<\/a>, telling TNT Sports: \u2018Chelsea fans are crying out to see the real Garnacho.<\/p>\n \u2018He\u2019s certainly got some talent and the quality. We just need to see it more in a Chelsea shirt.
