NYAC Wins The Championship<\/strong>: New York Athletic Club\u00a0went unbeaten on the weekend including\u00a0defeating\u00a0Stanford\u00a013-9\u00a0to claim the inaugural Legacy Crown. The sides traded scores to get things going as Rachel Fattal scored for NYAC followed by a pair of goals from Serena Browne for Stanford. Then, it was Melissa Seidemann who tied the score midway through the opening period before Ryann Neushul\u00a0struck with a pair of goals\u00a0to give NYAC a 4-2\u00a0lead after one. In the second quarter, Stanford responded with the first two goals from Jenna Flynn and Browne to level the score. Jordan Raney converted a penalty shot for NYAC to retake the lead before Sienna Green answered for the Cardinal. To close the half, Bayley Weber scored for NYAC and Quinn Healy did the same for Stanford\u00a0to knot things up\u00a0at 6-6 halfway through.
It was the second half where NYAC determined its superiority on the day. Kiley Neushul scored on the opening possession of the third period before both defenses controlled the ensuing three minutes. Near the midpoint of the quarter, Flynn scored her second goal of the game to tie the score once more. Ryann Neushul took advantage of a power play opportunity on the next possession and then Kami Craig ended the third with a goal seconds before the buzzer to give NYAC a 9-7 lead entering the final frame. The first goal of the fourth quarter was a beautiful\u00a0no-look backhand shot past three defenders from Jamie Neushul that seemingly\u00a0gave NYAC more confidence to close out strong and that is exactly how it played out. Fattal immediately got out on the counter attack to put another one away for NYAC before Craig and Seidemann\u00a0both scored again to push the lead to six. From there, it was all window dressing for Stanford who got goals from Claire Minton and Reagan McEachen\u00a0but it was not enough as NYAC prevailed with the 13-9 victory.<\/p>\n In the semifinal, NYAC\u00a0upended UCLA, 9-5,\u00a0behind three goals from Fattal\u00a0and two\u00a0by Ryann Neushul while goalkeeper\u00a0Amanda Longan\u00a0notched five\u00a0saves in net.<\/p>\n Stanford Finishes Second<\/strong>: Before reaching the final, Stanford defeated USC in the semifinal 14-8\u00a0with four goals from Juliette Dhalluin and three\u00a0by Browne. Jacqueline King and Izzy Scott combined for\u00a0nine\u00a0saves in net for the Cardinal.<\/p>\n USC Claims Third Place<\/strong>: USC defeated UCLA, 12-8, in the third place game to finish on the podium. Emily Ausmus led the charge with four goals and three earned exclusions for the Trojans who had Rachel Gazzaniga, EJ Hourigan, and Ava Stryker each score twice.<\/p>\n Pipeline Athletes\u00a0Begin To Build Their Legacy<\/strong>: A pair of USA Red teammates showed their promise throughout the inaugural Legacy Crown weekend. Allison Cohen was named Top Scorer with 18 goals scored on 69.2% shooting while also handing out seven assists and earning six exclusions. Charlotte Raisin was recognized with Rising Star honors after five goals, six earned exclusions, three assists, and one steal.<\/p>\n Stat Watch<\/strong>:\u00a06-8 Sports<\/a> is the official stat program of the Legacy Crown.
