Temperatures have suddenly plummeted across the UK, bringing the coldest temperatures we have seen since March – but the Met Office warns<\/a> it is going to get even colder.<\/p>\n Several severe weather<\/a> warnings for ice and snow are in place across the UK over the next few days, to be lifted on Thursday night (November 20).<\/p>\n The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has also issued amber and yellow cold weather alerts<\/a> for the whole of England, coming to an end on Friday morning (November 21).<\/p>\n The coldest time of the week is expected to be on Thursday night, when parts of the UK could reach a freezing -10C. Greater Manchester is set to go as low as -3C at its coldest time, but could feel as cold as -7C.<\/p>\n The Met Office has warned that even though it already feels cold, it is set to feel “even colder” from Wednesday, November 19, and onwards.<\/p>\n The forecast reads: “By Wednesday, we\u2019ll all be firmly under the colder Arctic airmass, with a strong and very cold northerly flow making temperatures feel even colder.”<\/p>\n Join the Manchester Evening News <\/strong>WhatsApp<\/strong> group <\/strong>HERE<\/a><\/p>\n Deputy Chief Forecaster Tom Crabtree explained: \u201cWednesday to Friday will be the coldest part of the week, and this period has the greatest potential for impactful weather, with multiple warnings in place. Overnight, temperatures could get down to minus ten, with a significant wind chill from the strong northerly wind making things feel even colder.”<\/p>\n Mr Crabtree continues: \u201cWintry snow showers are expected to extend south through Wednesday and into Thursday, mainly affecting north facing coastal areas.<\/p>\n “Snow accumulations are possible, including 2-5 cm to some low-lying areas in the north and east where showers are frequent.<\/p>\n “On hills in parts of Northern Ireland, the northeast of England and Scotland, 5-10 cm of snow could fall and accumulations of 15-20cm are possible above 300 metres in parts of northeastern England and Scotland.<\/p>\n \u201cAlthough many places will see plenty of sunshine, daytime temperatures will be well-below average, with a widespread frost setting in during the evening, especially in sheltered areas.<\/p>\n \u201cWith sub-zero temperatures in the first \u2018cold snap\u2019 of the year, updates to the current warnings are possible, so its important people keep up to date with the forecast.\u201d<\/p>\n Manchester<\/strong><\/p>\n Partly cloudy changing to sunny by late morning.
