A round-up of Newcastle’s current injury situation ahead of Saturday’s game with Man City\"NickNick Pope had to come off against Brentford<\/p>\n

Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe will give his injured players every chance to show they are ready to face Manchester City this weekend as the Magpies return to Premier League action against Pep Guardiola’s side.<\/p>\n

United will be without the suspended Dan Burn, while there will be fitness checks on several players ahead of the big game. DR Congo striker Yoane Wissa is not expected to be involved, but could make his first Newcastle appearance in the next few weeks.<\/p>\n

Howe’s men were without Anthony Gordon<\/a> in the 3-1 defeat to Brentford, while goalkeeper Nick Pope went off with a concussion. United are in a need of a positive result against City after two away defeats, but know they will have to be at their very best on Saturday evening.<\/p>\n

With that in mind, here is a look at the current Newcastle United<\/a> injury situation.<\/p>\n

Nick Pope<\/p>\n

Injury: <\/strong>Concussion<\/p>\n

Pope fell awkwardly when catching a high ball against Brentford and was replaced by Aaron Ramsdale. Howe has said he suffered a concussion and he has been withdrawn from England duty. He should be clear on the 12-day concussion protocol in time for City.<\/p>\n

What Howe has said: <\/strong>“Nick Pope suffered concussion and that’s why we took him off. As soon as we were made aware he was withdrawn.<\/p>\n

Expected return:<\/strong> Man City (H), November 22<\/p>\n

Joelinton<\/p>\n

Injury: <\/strong>Shin<\/p>\n

The midfielder thundered into a tackle with Dango Ouattara against Brentford but he came out of the exchange worse. He picked up a gash on his shin and he wasn’t able to shake off the injury before being replaced by Jacob Ramsey.<\/p>\n

What Howe has said: <\/strong>“Joelinton looked like a knock but I have not had a full discussion with the medical team.”<\/p>\n

Expected return:<\/strong> Man City (H), November 22<\/p>\n

Dan Burn<\/p>\n

Injury: <\/strong>Suspension<\/p>\n

Burn is not injured but features on this list as he was sent off in the defeat to Brentford for picking up two yellow cards. It means the 33-year-old will be suspended for the visit of Man City in 12 days’ time.<\/p>\n

Expected return:<\/strong> Marseille (A), November 25<\/p>\n

Anthony Gordon<\/p>\n

Injury: <\/strong>Hip<\/p>\n

The winger missed the defeat to Brentford after limping off against Bilbao with a hip injury. He is yet to return to training, and while he has not been ruled ouf of Saturday’s game, is rated 50-50.<\/a><\/p>\n

What Howe has said :<\/strong>“It seems like a recurrence of his hip injury that has been plaguing him in recent weeks. We’ll assess that and see what damage is there.”<\/p>\n

Yoane Wissa<\/p>\n

Injury: <\/strong>Knee<\/p>\n

The forward is yet to play for Newcastle after his move from Brentford and his debut will have to wait a few more weeks yet. The DR Congo striker is close to a return from a knee injury, with a December date now more likely.<\/p>\n

What Howe has said:<\/strong> “His knee is feeling good; it is more a case of looking at his fitness and sharpness. He is in a good place to kick on, but we need to get him in a position to be robust enough to help the team. I am sure he will be worth the wait.”<\/p>\n

Tino Livramento<\/p>\n

Injury: <\/strong>Knee<\/p>\n

United have missed the attacking full-back ever since he fell awkwardly on his knee against Arsenal in September. However, is in on course to return on schedule later this month, after the international break.<\/p>\n

What Howe has said:<\/strong> “Tino is still on track, we are looking at the Manchester City game for him for when he can be available.”<\/p>\n

William Osula<\/p>\n

Injury: <\/strong>Ankle<\/p>\n

The young Danish striker was named on the bench against Athletic Bilbao but had to pull out of the squad with an ankle problem which has been nursing for a fee weeks. He will miss the Brentford game but could return after the break.<\/p>\n

What Howe has said:<\/strong> “It is something he has been feeling for a little bit, but it has been functional and able to play. But he has had a scan, and it told us to pull back a bit. It’s not serious but could be out for a few weeks.”<\/p>\n
