A 17 year old boy has been arrested after a fight at Sheffield College earlier today said to have involved knives.<\/p>\n
Police were called to the campus on Granville Road at 1:07pm after an altercation involving students, one of whom was allegedly seen with a blade.<\/p>\n
The teenager was later detained on Alderson Road, some distance away from the college, on suspicion of affray and possession of a bladed article.<\/p>\n
No injuries have been reported and students left the school as normal this afternoon.<\/p>\n
South Yorkshire Police Chief Inspector Katie Rowland-Wilson said:<\/p>\n
“We understand news of this incident will cause considerable concern, particularly among parents and guardians. <\/p>\n
“I want to make it clear that, although we are in the early stages of our enquiries, we have a boy in custody and we remain on scene to engage with the college community and offer our reassurances. <\/p>\n
“We are now working to understand the full circumstances of what happened and we will remain in the area on our regular patrols. <\/p>\n
“I’d encourage anyone who has concerns to speak to an officer when you see them and would urge anyone with information which could help our enquiries to report it to us.”<\/p>\n
