A prolonged period of heavy rain caused flooding throughout the region<\/p>\n

Severe weather caused disruption across Merseyside this evening, with heavy rainfall leaving multiple roads flooded and transport services heavily affected ahead of a yellow weather<\/a> warning for ice coming into force overnight.<\/p>\n

Several major routes were left impassable on Tuesday (November 18) after prolonged downpours. Princes Road and Ullet Road in Toxteth<\/a> were partially submerged, while deep water forced the closure of part of Queens Drive. In Prescot<\/a>, Carr Lane was shut in both directions when flooding made the road unsafe to use.<\/a><\/p>\n

Traffic monitoring service Inrix reported long delays on the M56 eastbound<\/a>, which was partially blocked at junction 15 near the M53 due to standing water. In Liverpool city centre<\/a>, Myrtle Street and surrounding areas also experienced significant flooding.<\/p>\n

Arriva North West warned passengers of widespread disruption, saying all services in the city region were facing delays and possible cancellations due to “adverse weather conditions.”<\/p>\n

The operator later confirmed diversions on Queens Drive, with its 68 service rerouted via Rose Lane in both directions to avoid floodwater.<\/p>\n

Allerton<\/a> Road was also hit by heavy flooding, contributing to travel issues already caused by a crash earlier in the evening.<\/a><\/p>\n

Emergency services were called to the junction of Allerton Road and Mapledale Road at around 5.10pm after a male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle.<\/p>\n

The man was taken to hospital for assessment of his injuries. A police cordon was put in place and the road closed at the junction with Rose Lane, with traffic diverted towards Calderstones Road.<\/p>\n

The Met Office<\/a> has issued a yellow weather warning for ice, which will come into force at 12am on Wednesday (November 19) and remain active until 11am. Forecasters say an Arctic blast will bring a strong, very cold northerly airflow, making conditions feel even colder.<\/p>\n

A Met Office spokesperson said: “By Wednesday, we\u2019ll all be firmly under the colder Arctic airmass, with a strong and very cold northerly flow making temperatures feel even colder.”<\/p>\n

People across Merseyside are being urged to take extra care, with warnings of icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, and an increased risk of slips and falls. Rain and hill snow followed by clearing skies overnight are expected to heighten the risk of ice forming into Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n
