The teachers there, oh my God they are doing their bit.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">She added: \u2018I don\u2019t feel like education has been thanked enough, actually, for the level that it has been asked to take on. And largely you didn\u2019t whinge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">\u2018You should whinge more. No-one\u2019s going to learn maths. They\u2019ll just be learning how to spot a terrorist. And that isn\u2019t your job.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">She added that \u2018schools get asked to do too much\u2019 but were crucial to \u2018raising brilliant safe individuals\u2019 and reducing domestic violence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Her comments come after Mrs Phillipson announced earlier this month that primary schools will in future be asked to teach \u2018financial literacy\u2019 as part of compulsory \u2018citizenship\u2019 lessons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">At the time, her shadow cabinet rival Laura Trott questioned whether the extra content would come at the expense of pupils being taught how to \u2018add up\u2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Mrs Trott said on the day of the announcement: \u2018There are many things that the Government talks about adding in today, but there is little honesty about what will be squeezed out as a result.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Headteachers\u2019 union the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) has previously warned the burden placed on schools and teachers \u2018has never been higher\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">During her appearance at the GSA conference, Mrs Phillips said a \u2018huge and worrying&#8217; rate of domestic and sexual violence within teenage relationships has grown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">She added: &#8216;Certainly you cannot have girls who will thrive in their lives \u2013 all that effort you might put into their academia \u2013 it doesn\u2019t matter how clever, how brilliant they are.
