{"id":57949,"date":"2025-04-28T16:54:09","date_gmt":"2025-04-28T16:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/57949\/"},"modified":"2025-04-28T16:54:09","modified_gmt":"2025-04-28T16:54:09","slug":"boris-johnsons-dad-urges-starmer-to-undo-the-damage-of-brexit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/57949\/","title":{"rendered":"Boris Johnson\u2019s dad urges Starmer to \u2018undo the damage of Brexit\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Stanley Johnson has called on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelondoneconomic.com\/tag\/keir-starmer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Keir Starmer<\/a> to help \u201cundo the huge damage of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelondoneconomic.com\/tag\/brexit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brexit<\/a>\u201d by rejoining the European Environment Agency (EEA) in a bid to rebuild closer ties with the EU.<\/p>\n<p>Boris Johnson\u2019s father has said EEA membership should be a priority at next month\u2019s UK-EU summit, the first high-level meeting since Britain departed the single market.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a letter to the nature minister, Mary Creagh, Stanley Johnson, a former MEP and I\u2019m a Celebrity star, urged the government to take advantage of a post-Brexit \u201copportunity\u201d by re-establishing environmental links with the EU.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to the National World, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalworld.com\/news\/opinion\/stanley-johnson-urges-uk-government-to-help-undo-the-huge-damage-of-brexit-by-rejoining-eu-environment-agency-5100229\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a>: \u201cRejoining the EEA will be an important step in the direction of rebuilding the UK\u2019s relationships with Europe in the environmental field, including climate change, marine pollution, plastic waste, energy, biodiversity and the circular economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI firmly believe that this can be achieved economically and without loss of sovereignty, as other non-EU members of the EEA, including Switzerland, Norway, Turkey, Iceland etc, would\u00a0 \u2013 I am sure \u2013 be ready to attest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also warned that the UK\u2019s absence from the EEA, which provides independent information on the environment, had weakened its leadership on environmental issues and undermined international cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s high time we help to undo the huge damage of Brexit on the environment and my letter to the minister for nature drives that point home,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe must take concrete steps to reconnect with Europe, starting with the environment, where shared challenges demand shared solutions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe EEA is a practical, non-political way to rebuild trust. Joining again would show that Britain is ready to lead on climate and biodiversity alongside our neighbours.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stanley Johnson has often clashed with his son over Brexit.
