{"id":579752,"date":"2025-11-19T05:18:21","date_gmt":"2025-11-19T05:18:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/579752\/"},"modified":"2025-11-19T05:18:21","modified_gmt":"2025-11-19T05:18:21","slug":"eu-missing-from-cop30-push-to-drop-fossil-fuels-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/579752\/","title":{"rendered":"EU missing from COP30 push to drop fossil fuels \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many EU countries backed the d\u00e9marche, with ministers from Denmark and Germany taking a prominent role in the announcement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Germany\u2019s Environment Minister Carsten Schneider called on the meeting \u201cto free ourselves from fossil fuels \u2026 it can help with access to energy, lowering prices for households and businesses and strengthening our energy security.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For the EU to back the initiative, all countries in the 27-nation bloc would need to unify behind it.\u00a0The EU has recently undergone a tough process of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/eu-countries-agree-weakened-2040-climate-goal-and-target-for-cop30\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">setting new climate goals<\/a> that drew opposition from countries with ties to coal and the car industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is completely in the EU interest,\u201d said Jennifer Morgan, Germany&#8217;s former climate envoy. \u201cSo I&#8217;m quite puzzled that there are evidently a couple of member states that are nervous about this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>EU Climate Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra said: &#8220;It is positive that this agenda is being taken forward. Our energy transition in the EU is a transitioning away from fossil fuels on which we have been doing a lot and will continue to do so.
