Two neighbours have been left unable to return home after a tree came crashing down on their houses in Oldham<\/a> during Storm Claudia. The tree collapsed from Dogford Park onto the homes on Rochdale<\/a> Road during the ferocious rainstorm on Friday, November 14.<\/p>\n The residents were later instructed to \u2018leave the home\u2019 by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service over concerns the tree could have caused structural damage. The collapsed tree has obliterated a shed and is currently lodged in the roof of one of the houses.<\/p>\n Susan Jenkins, 72, was inside her house when the tree collapsed.<\/p>\n Susan told the Local Democracy Reporting Service: \u201cNothing like this has ever happened before. We\u2019ve had trees down, but it\u2019s never caused damage like this.<\/p>\n \u201c[When it happened] I heard a sound and the dog jumped up, so I went out to have a look. The first thing I noticed was the car was really dirty and then I thought \u2013 hold on a second, what are all these branches doing here?<\/p>\n \u201cThen I realised the whole tree had come down.\u201d<\/p>\n The Royton pensioner has had to decamp to her grandson\u2019s house for several days, with no idea when she and her elderly dachshund Brutus might be able to return.<\/p>\n \u201cI feel sick because of it,\u201d Susan said. \u201cI just keep shaking. It\u2019s really disruptive.\u201d<\/p>\n When the LDRS arrived at the scene, tree surgeons hired by the council were working on removing branches from the fallen tree \u2013 but extricating the trunk from the roof of the house will be \u2018challenging\u2019, as it could cause further damage.<\/p>\n \u201cWe keep trying to call the council, but they\u2019ve been quite dismissive,\u201d Leanne Jenkins, 43, who has been supporting her mother-in-law Susan. \u201cWe were told the tree was healthy and it was the waterlogged soil that gave way \u2013 so it wasn\u2019t their liability. We still don\u2019t know if they\u2019ll remove the trunk.\u201d<\/p>\n After the LDRS contacted the local authority, a spokesperson confirmed they were \u2018in the process of arranging a crane\u2019 that would remove the rest of the tree as soon as possible \u2013 but that this could take a number of days.<\/p>\n Local ward councillor Christine Adams visited the residents over the weekend, and stated: \u201cThis was clearly a very distressing situation for the residents. When I arrived, the Fire Service were in attendance and had made an initial assessment to determine that the property was unsafe.
