Chesterfield-based Dawson Radford Solicitors oversaw the purchase of the established luxury holiday accommodation business operated from Skeldale House on behalf of new owner Greg Parkin

The Grade II listed Wensleydale property, which appeared in the opening credits and 90 episodes of the hit drama between 1978 and 1990, was the exterior of the fictional Darrowby veterinary surgery.

Originally built in the early-to-mid-19th century, Skeldale House has enjoyed several incarnations over the years, from a family home to a care facility and B&B, before becoming luxury serviced holiday apartments in 2021.

Entrepreneur Greg, who built and sold several successful businesses in the construction supplies sector before turning his focus to hospitality, said the opportunity to acquire Skeldale House was “too good to miss.”

The property was renamed Skeldale House when it became a B&B in 2013 in tribute to its television fame. Between 1978 and 1990, it appeared in 90 episodes, including the show’s memorable opening credits, becoming instantly recognisable to millions of viewers across the UK and beyond.

While no interior scenes were filmed in the house, it was often used for make-up and costume and by the cast while relaxing between takes.

“It’s a very special place,” he said. “I grew up watching All Creatures Great and Small and have always loved the Dales. Skeldale House captures everything I value, authenticity, beauty, and a sense of welcome. I want guests to feel the same connection when they visit.”

The transaction was led by Cathy Mason, Solicitor and Director at Mason Thomas Law, who described the deal as both “time-sensitive and rewarding.”

“We were delighted to support Greg with such a landmark acquisition,” said Cathy. “Skeldale House is part of Yorkshire’s cultural heritage and ensuring the property purchase within a tight timeframe was a real team effort. It’s exciting to see the property continuing its legacy as a destination for visitors to the Dales.”

Skeldale House offers six luxury serviced suites and a self-contained holiday apartment. Within the property, Greg has created ‘The Surgery’ event space, which is an homage to All Creatures Great and Small featuring original veterinary paraphernalia, photos of ‘James Herriot’, his books and scenes of filming in the village.

Greg added: “I took on Skeldale House as a personal challenge. I am very present and visit as much as possible and also stay there with my partner Lisa when we are exploring the local area.”

The new owners plan to also expand the business offering to include bespoke rural retreat packages, encouraging visitors to immerse themselves in the landscape that inspired James Herriot’s stories. “We are committed to improving and developing the house,” said Greg.

Find out more at www.skeldalehouse.co.uk.

Image provided by Mason Thomas Law.

A Sheffield law firm has advised on the purchase one of Yorkshire’s most recognisable properties, Skeldale House in…

[8817
748,393,4884,1620,16,15
0":"post-580271","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-sheffield","8":"tag-britain","9":"tag-england","10":"tag-great-britain","11":"tag-sheffield","12":"tag-uk","13":"tag-united-kingdom
["GET
