{"id":580357,"date":"2025-11-19T12:04:24","date_gmt":"2025-11-19T12:04:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/580357\/"},"modified":"2025-11-19T12:04:24","modified_gmt":"2025-11-19T12:04:24","slug":"super-league-flop-signs-new-nrl-deal-after-tremendous-return-to-comp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/580357\/","title":{"rendered":"Super League flop signs new NRL deal after &#8220;tremendous&#8221; return to comp"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"2400\" height=\"1710\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/AM12035.jpg\" class=\"attachment- size- wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p><strong>A veteran forward who had a torrid time in Super League has been rewarded with a new contract after his \u201ctremendous\u201d NRL return.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sio Siua Taukeiaho left Super League just 18 months into a two-year deal, making zero appearances in his second season at Catalans Dragons as injury issues took hold.<\/p>\n<p>What followed were disciplinary issues with Catalans releasing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seriousaboutrl.com\/catalans-dragons-sack-three-players-with-immediate-effect-94628\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">veteran forward sacked<\/a> alongside two others after they failed to attend the England versus France mid-season international, instead attending a concert in England.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, Taukeiaho played just ten games in 18 months before returning down under but he\u2019s gone on to be a huge asset to Manly Sea Eagles, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seriousaboutrl.com\/ex-super-league-man-to-sign-deal-with-nrl-club-after-contract-termination-98754\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">initially picked him up in late 2024<\/a> on a train and trial deal before committing to him for the 2025 season.<\/p>\n<p>After an impressive first season back in the NRL, Taukeiaho has now been handed a contract extension with Manly\u2019s head coach Anthony Seibold hailing his impact.<\/p>\n<p>Sacked Super League forward signs new NRL deal<\/p>\n<p>Taukeiaho had been on the radar of NRL clubs after his first season with Catalans but a failed medical saw a move to Canterbury fall through, however, he put his injury woes behind him and made 21 appearances in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the forward\u2019s impact, head coach Anthony Seibold said: \u201cSiua was tremendous for the team in his first year back in the NRL.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEffort after effort and just so consistent with his performances. We had a lot of injuries to our middles last season, so Siua\u2019s contribution to the team became even more important.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s one of our leaders who shows the way week in, week out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Taukeiaho could be asked to step up even more in terms of leadership with Daly Cherry-Evans departing and fellow prop <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seriousaboutrl.com\/rugby-league-news-warrington-wolves-sign-powerhouse-nrl-prop-on-two-year-deal-107026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Toafofoa Sipley joining Warrington Wolves<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really happy to have signed on at Manly for another year,\u201d Taukeiaho said of his new deal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a terrific a group we\u2019ve got here, both players and staff, and I think the future looks bright.
