{"id":580648,"date":"2025-11-19T15:20:20","date_gmt":"2025-11-19T15:20:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/580648\/"},"modified":"2025-11-19T15:20:20","modified_gmt":"2025-11-19T15:20:20","slug":"wahoo-files-patent-for-new-smart-trainer-with-a-secret-drawer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/580648\/","title":{"rendered":"Wahoo files patent for new smart trainer with\u2026 a secret drawer?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"ba9485d4-c892-4961-ac7f-9c6af68da31b\">Fitness technology brand <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/reviews\/brand\/wahoo\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/reviews\/brand\/wahoo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wahoo<\/a> has filed a patent for a first-of-its-kind smart trainer with a built-in drawer.<\/p>\n<p>The patent, titled \u2018cycling training device with integrated storage\u2019, was created earlier this year and published last week by the US Patent and Trademark Office.<\/p>\n<p>It shows a smart trainer that appears identical to the brand\u2019s flagship <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/reviews\/turbo-trainers-indoor-training\/wahoo-kickr-v6-2022-direct-drive-smart-trainer-review-is-the-update-worth-the-extra-spend\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/reviews\/turbo-trainers-indoor-training\/wahoo-kickr-v6-2022-direct-drive-smart-trainer-review-is-the-update-worth-the-extra-spend\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KICKR<\/a> product, but with the addition of a hidden tubular drawer that extends from the middle support leg.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p class=\"vanilla-image-block\" style=\"padding-top:62.00%;\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/GpijafYdQmaD8svPVtTPLG.jpg\" alt=\"A patent drawing of a wahoo smart trainer with an inbuilt drawer\"   loading=\"lazy\" data-new-v2-image=\"true\" data-original-mos=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/GpijafYdQmaD8svPVtTPLG.jpg\" data-pin-media=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/GpijafYdQmaD8svPVtTPLG.jpg\"\/>\n<\/p>\n<p>(Image credit: Wahoo\/USPTO)<\/p>\n<p id=\"0cd39e23-0b07-45b3-8190-19d243537bb0\">Explaining the design, Wahoo writes in the patent that the idea stemmed from a \u201cneed\u201d for \u201cconvenient and space-efficient storage\u201d, so users do not lose the accessories that are needed for the trainer.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"0cd39e23-0b07-45b3-8190-19d243537bb0-1\">\u201cFor example, indoor trainers may include adapters or similar components to facilitate coupling between the trainer and different styles of axle connections (e.g., quick-release connections, thru-axle connections, etc.), rear cassettes, drop out spacing, and the like. A user may also need to perform occasional maintenance on the cycling training device using a specific set of tools,\u201d the patent reads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdapters and tools are often small components and can be readily misplaced, leading to time spent locating the accessories and potential costs to replace lost accessories.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"vanilla-image-block\" style=\"padding-top:62.00%;\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/veCjcp8Mh3TTEUdYm44JMG.jpg\" alt=\"A patent drawing of a wahoo smart trainer with an inbuilt drawer\"   loading=\"lazy\" data-new-v2-image=\"true\" data-original-mos=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/veCjcp8Mh3TTEUdYm44JMG.jpg\" data-pin-media=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/veCjcp8Mh3TTEUdYm44JMG.jpg\"\/>\n<\/p>\n<p>(Image credit: Wahoo\/USPTO)<\/p>\n<p id=\"1f05daf6-87f1-457f-ad62-31ee37e3e8c8\">Wahoo goes on to discuss different implementations of the drawer; it could be \u201cmolded\u201d into shape to house specific accessories, the brand writes, or it could come in a more general shape to store other items, such as the user&#8217;s personal belongings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">The latest race content, interviews, features, reviews and expert buying guides, direct to your inbox!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe shape, size and integrated features of the carriage may depend on the size and shape of the member in which the drawer is supported,\u201d the patent says.<\/p>\n<p>It adds that the \u201cdrawer concept\u201d could be integrated into other indoor trainers and exercise devices.<\/p>\n<p>As with all patents, there is no guarantee that this design has or will be produced. The patent filing protects the intellectual property behind the idea, in case the company wants to make it in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Wahoo also filed a patent for a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/news\/wahoo-patent-suggests-plan-for-new-side-to-side-tilting-exercise-bike\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/news\/wahoo-patent-suggests-plan-for-new-side-to-side-tilting-exercise-bike\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">side-to-side tilting exercise bike<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Contacted by Cycling Weekly, a Wahoo spokesperson said: \u201cWe do not comment on our future roadmap except to say that Wahoo are continually innovating to help achieve our mission of building a better athlete in all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Fitness technology brand Wahoo has filed a patent for a first-of-its-kind smart trainer with a built-in drawer.
