{"id":580857,"date":"2025-11-19T17:38:35","date_gmt":"2025-11-19T17:38:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/580857\/"},"modified":"2025-11-19T17:38:35","modified_gmt":"2025-11-19T17:38:35","slug":"spotlight-shines-on-the-first-shows-announced-for-redeveloped-kings-theatre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/580857\/","title":{"rendered":"Spotlight shines on the first shows announced for redeveloped King\u2019s Theatre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>:\u00a0The King\u2019s Theatre takes a major step forward on the path to reopening following its landmark redevelopment, unveiling some of the first shows set to appear on the iconic Edinburgh stage.\u00a0From acclaimed West End hits to\u00a0brand-new\u00a0drama,\u00a0world class\u00a0dance and\u00a0family entertainment, the redeveloped King\u2019s Theatre promises a rich and varied programme for\u00a0everyone.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The reimagined King\u2019s Theatre will feature improved accessibility\u00a0for all, redesigned hospitality spaces, a new\u00a0level\u00a0stage and upgraded technical facilities, all enhancing the audience experience\u00a0whilst\u00a0paving the way for larger, more ambitious productions to\u00a0visit the theatre.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The newly announced productions feature in\u00a0the King\u2019s autumn 2026 season,\u00a0a celebration of courage,\u00a0spirit\u00a0and Scotland itself.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Highlights include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Operation Mincemeat<\/strong>(2-7 November) the West End\u00a0and Broadway\u00a0smash hit and winner of the 2024 Olivier Award for Best New Musical.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Chariots of Fire<\/strong>(15-19 September) a brand-new stage adaptation of the multi-award-winning film, directed by Roxana Silbert and written by Mike Bartlett.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wallace<\/strong>(30 September-3 October) a bold new hip-hop musical\u00a0written by Rob Drummond\u00a0with music and lyrics by Dave Hook and produced by Raw Material, exploring one of Scotland\u2019s most legendary figures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The King\u2019s new\u00a0level\u00a0stage opens the door to more dance, including internationally acclaimed choreographer\u00a0<strong>Jasmin\u00a0Vardimon\u2019s\u00a0Lullaby<\/strong>\u00a0(24-26 September), a groundbreaking\u00a0new\u00a0piece\u00a0exploring\u00a0the emotional highs and lows\u00a0of human life set against\u00a0a clinical hospital landscape.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Other upcoming productions include Tony Roper\u2019s beloved washhouse comedy\u00a0<strong>The Steamie<\/strong>\u00a0(5-10 October),\u00a0brand-new family musical\u00a0<strong>Toto The Ninja Cat<\/strong>\u00a0(23-25 October) based on the best-selling\u00a0children\u2019s\u00a0books\u00a0by Dermot O\u2019Leary,\u00a0joyful new musical\u00a0<strong>Rollers Forever<\/strong>\u00a0(27-31 October) celebrating the 70s\u2019 biggest boyband,\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Crown of Blood<\/strong>\u00a0(3-6 March 2027), a powerful new Yoruba adaptation of\u00a0Macbeth.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Edinburgh\u2019s celebrated community companies return to the King\u2019s stage, with the\u00a0<strong>Edinburgh Gilbert &amp; Sullivan Society<\/strong>\u00a0in sparkling satire\u00a0Iolanthe\u00a0(14-17 October) and the Scouts and Girl Guides in the much-loved\u00a0<strong>Gang Show<\/strong>\u00a0(17-21 November).<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The pantomime returns to its spiritual home\u00a0for the first time since 2021,\u00a0as\u00a0fan favourites Allan Stewart, Grant\u00a0Stott\u00a0and Jordan Young\u00a0star in a\u00a0brand-new production\u00a0<strong>The Adventures\u00a0of\u00a0Pinocchio<\/strong>\u00a0(28\u00a0November\u00a02026 to 17 January\u00a02027).<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Further announcements will be made\u00a0about the King\u2019s\u00a0summer 2026\u00a0reopening celebrations. Details\u00a0of\u00a0the much-awaited return of Edinburgh International Festival to the King\u2019s\u00a0will be announced\u00a0in\u00a0spring\u00a02026.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tickets for the King\u2019s autumn 2026 season are available for priority booking by Friends of Capital Theatres from 26 November 11am, with\u00a0general public\u00a0sales opening on 3 December.
