{"id":580890,"date":"2025-11-19T18:04:16","date_gmt":"2025-11-19T18:04:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/580890\/"},"modified":"2025-11-19T18:04:16","modified_gmt":"2025-11-19T18:04:16","slug":"putin-has-repeatedly-underestimated-support-for-ukraine-says-uk-foreign-secretary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/580890\/","title":{"rendered":"Putin has \u2018repeatedly underestimated\u2019 support for Ukraine, says UK foreign secretary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>LONDON<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper on Wednesday said that Russian President Vladimir Putin has \u201crepeatedly underestimated\u201d both Ukraine\u2019s resilience and the commitment of its allies, as she addressed reporters alongside her German counterpart Johann Wadephul in Berlin.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to reporters alongside German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Berlin, Cooper said Russia has \u201cfailed in its military objectives\u201d in Ukraine and was now seeking to \u201ccontinually\u201d escalate.<\/p>\n<p>She insisted the UK would not be deterred from backing Kyiv.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will continue to stand with Ukraine because Ukraine has shown incredible strength and resilience in the face of Russian aggression,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I think Putin has repeatedly underestimated Ukraine and underestimated the commitment and determination of Ukraine&#8217;s friends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her remarks followed questions about the Russian intelligence ship Yantar, which was recently detected near British waters.<\/p>\n<p>Cooper described the incident as a \u201cdeeply dangerous\u201d action, highlighting that RAF aircraft monitoring the vessel had lasers shone at them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the second time this year that this ship has deployed to UK waters,\u201d she said. \u201cWe have been clear to Putin we see this activity, we know what he is doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Security cooperation dominated discussions between Cooper and Wadephul.<\/p>\n<p>Berlin confirmed it will change its laws by the end of the year to enable joint UK-German operations targeting criminal gangs involved in small boat crossings.<\/p>\n<p>Cooper said the move would allow police to \u201cpursue the criminal gangs who have been storing small boats in warehouses across Germany \u2026 in order to make a vile profit from trading in human lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wadephul called the UK \u201ca cornerstone of the European security architecture\u201d and said both countries were determined to deepen defense collaboration.<\/p>\n<p>On Ukraine, he said: \u201cWe stand shoulder to shoulder with the brave Ukrainians,\u201d adding that the war could end \u201ctomorrow\u201d if Russia showed willingness to make peace.<\/p>\n<p>                            &#13;<br \/>\n                                <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aa.com.tr\/en\/p\/subscription\/1001\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"font-size:12px;
