{"id":58153,"date":"2025-04-28T18:40:10","date_gmt":"2025-04-28T18:40:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/58153\/"},"modified":"2025-04-28T18:40:10","modified_gmt":"2025-04-28T18:40:10","slug":"full-list-of-people-entitled-to-free-nhs-prescriptions-as-2025-26-charges-confirmed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/58153\/","title":{"rendered":"Full list of people entitled to free NHS prescriptions as 2025\/26 charges confirmed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The latest announcement from the government could ease the cost of living struggle for millions of people<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/1_Prescription-charges.jpg\" alt=\"Those who are already exempt from paying for their NHS prescriptions will remain so.\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>A GP writing a prescription.(Image: Anthony Devlin\/PA Wire)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">On Monday, the government announced that <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/nhs\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">NHS<\/a> prescription charges in England will be frozen for the first time in three years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The move will save patients around \u00a318 million next year \u2013 keeping prescriptions under the cost of a tenner, at \u00a39.90 for a single charge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The freeze comes weeks after the government agreed record investment for community pharmacies to fund local services for patients.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Three-month and annual prescriptions prepayment certificates will also be frozen for 2025\/26, keeping the cost at \u00a332.05 and \u00a3114.50 respectively.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Annual charges can now be made in instalments, meaning those requiring regular medicines will be able to get them for just over \u00a32 a week &#8211; further easing the financial impact on households.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Those who are already exempt from paying for their <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/nhs\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">NHS<\/a> prescriptions will remain so.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The six groups of people who are entitled to free prescriptions are:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Children under 16 and those in full-time education aged 16-18<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Pregnant women and those who have had a baby in the last 12 months<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">People with specified medical conditions like diabetes or cancer and have valid exemption certificates<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Those receiving qualifying benefits including Universal Credit (with criteria)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">If you fall into any of the categories listed above, you should provide proof of your exemption to the pharmacy staff when you present your prescription.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">This proof could be a valid exemption certificate (e.g., medical exemption, war pension exemption, etc.) or a valid NHS Prescription Prepayment Certificate (PPC).<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The pharmacy staff will check your exemption status against their records. If they can verify your exemption, they will dispense the medication without charging you.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">If you initially paid for a prescription but are later found to be eligible for free prescriptions, you can claim a refund within three months of the payment date.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">You can determine your eligibility by on the NHSBSA <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/check-for-help-paying-nhs-costs.nhsbsa.nhs.uk\/start\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">If you don&#8217;t already have an exemption certificate but feel you may be entitled to one, speak to your GP or doctor.
