This is the first image of a heartless murderer who killed his neighbour before raiding his bank account.<\/p>\n

Anthony Sharma was discovered dead by his landlady at his HMO in Doidge Road, Erdington<\/a>, at around 1pm on November 10, 2023.<\/p>\n

Today, Wednesday, November 19, Diogo Bettencourt was convicted of murder at Birmingham<\/a> Crown Court.<\/p>\n

The victim was seen going to an off-licence with Bettencourt, before returning to the property in which they both lived at around 10.30pm on November 8, 2023.<\/p>\n

That was the last confirmed sighting of Anthony.<\/p>\n

Bettencourt, 27, was seen walking outside alone around four hours later, when he tried to use Anthony’s bank card to make a cash withdrawal.<\/p>\n

Bettencourt callously went on to make several transactions using the card on November 9, withdrawing cash, and buying goods.<\/p>\n

On the morning of November 10, Anthony’s body was found in a sleeping bag, and following calls to emergency services, Bettencourt was arrested at around 1.30pm.<\/p>\n

Bettencourt replied no comment when in custody.<\/p>\n

A forensic post-mortem examination found Anthony had died as a result of multiple injuries including a head injury, and stab injuries.<\/p>\n

Bettencourt pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation and was found guilty of murder.<\/p>\n

Senior investigating officer, Det InspDamian Forrest, said: “Throughout this investigation our thoughts have been with Anthony’s family who have patiently waited for two years to see justice be done and we hope that this conviction can ease some of the pain and sadness which they continue to endure.<\/p>\n

“Bettencourt’s actions were callous as he went about his day having killed Anthony and even went on to use his bank card to make purchases. Thankfully, Bettencourt will now be spending a good amount of time behind bars.\u201d<\/p>\n
