According to Linus Sebastian, this likely means the <a class=\"link-relationship\" title=\"Platforms &gt; Steam [2,685 articles]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.videogameschronicle.com\/platforms\/pc\/steam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Steam<\/a> firm won\u2019t take a hit on production costs in order to reduce consumer prices, like companies like <a class=\"link-relationship\" title=\"Platforms &gt; PlayStation [11,271 articles]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.videogameschronicle.com\/platforms\/playstation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PlayStation<\/a> and <a class=\"link-relationship\" title=\"Platforms &gt; Xbox [10,408 articles]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.videogameschronicle.com\/platforms\/xbox\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Xbox<\/a> have done in the past.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, <a class=\"link-relationship\" title=\"Platforms &gt; PlayStation 5 [8,300 articles]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.videogameschronicle.com\/platforms\/playstation\/ps5\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PS5<\/a> retails for $500-$550, with PS5 Pro retailing for $750, and <a class=\"link-relationship\" title=\"Platforms &gt; Xbox Series X | S [6,730 articles]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.videogameschronicle.com\/platforms\/xbox\/seriesxs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Xbox Series X<\/a> starting from $600. Both platform holders have raised prices this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cValve wasn\u2019t able to give any specific numbers due to the \u2018rapidly evolving market conditions\u2019, but they will obviously have it nailed down when the <a class=\"link-relationship\" title=\"Platforms &gt; Steam Machine [9 articles]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.videogameschronicle.com\/platforms\/pc\/steam\/steam-machine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Steam Machine<\/a> launches in Q1 202, \u00a0alongside the new Steam <a class=\"link-relationship\" title=\"Games &gt; Control [589 articles]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.videogameschronicle.com\/games\/control\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Control<\/a>ler,\u201d Sebastian said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey did offer me one hint, though: they said that while they expect it to be very competitively priced with a PC, it will be priced like a PC, rather than like a console with games subsidizing the upfront hardware purchase.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey wouldn\u2019t say why, but if I had to guess, I\u2019d say it\u2019s partially to avoid stepping on the margin opportunities of their potential partners for Steam games and Steam software, but also because they recognize that the Steam Machine is a full-fledged PC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo there\u2019s no guarantee then that, say, a corporate purchase of 10,000 of these things would result in a single game sale, so they really do need to protect the sustainability of their harbor business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Announced on Wednesday alongside a new VR headset and controller,\u00a0<a class=\"link-internal\" href=\"https:\/\/www.videogameschronicle.com\/news\/valve-announces-new-a-steam-console-controller-and-vr-headset\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Steam Machine<\/a>\u00a0is a six-inch console-like cube with \u201cover six times the horsepower of\u00a0Steam\u00a0Deck\u201d, which is designed to allow <a class=\"link-relationship\" title=\"Platforms &gt; PC [11,671 articles]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.videogameschronicle.com\/platforms\/pc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PC games<\/a> to be played on the TV.<\/p>\n<p>Valve says Steam Machine will offer \u201c4K gaming at 60 fps with FSR, thanks to a discrete semi-custom AMD desktop class CPU and GPU\u201d and be powerful enough to stream games to other devices, including the Steam Deck.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Steam Machine \u2018will be priced like a PC, not like a console\u2019\" class=\"lazyload\" bad-src=\"\/files\/2025\/11\/steam-devices-80x45.jpg\"  data-\/>Valve plans to launch a new range of hardware products.<\/p>\n<p>Valve says it will reveal pricing for Steam Deck ahead of its release next year. According to Ampere Analysis, much of the device\u2019s success will depend on its price point.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmpere expects the new version of the Steam Machine to see success akin to the Steam Deck selling in the low millions over a few years,\u201d said Ampere\u2019s Katie Holt. \u201cIt will appeal to both established Steam gamers wanting an alternative access point to the platform perhaps through gaming on the TV and also to those consumers on the fence about spending a lot on a gaming PC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmong these consumers, uptake will be heavily dependent on pricing.
