A councillor is asking for the booking slot system to be removed from tips based in the south of Birmingham<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Residents who want to dispose of their waste at Norris Way household recycling centre (HRC) in Sutton Coldfield<\/a> and Castle Bromwich<\/a> complex in Tameside Drive, will no longer need to go online and reserve a spot from Wednesday (April 30).<\/p>\n

With no end in sight to the bin strikes, Councillor Timothy Huxtable (Hall Green<\/a> South) said he wanted to see this temporary change rolled out at both Tyseley and Lifford Lane tips.<\/p>\n

Coun Huxtable said: “I am calling for the suspension of the booking system at both Tyseley and Lifford HRCs.<\/p>\n

“Given the city council’s dire recycling rates even before this latest bin strike, the city council should be making every effort for it to be as easy as possible for residents to recycle.<\/p>\n

“The ongoing suspension of household recycling; green\/garden recycling; and bulk waste collections means the only places in Birmingham to currently recycle\/dispose of the above are HRCs, which is why the booking system at these HRCs should be lifted for those residents in the East and South of Birmingham, such as Hall Green.”<\/p>\n

Residents have suffered severe disruption to their rubbish collections since Unite the Union members went on an all-out strike from Tuesday, March 11.<\/p>\n

They have had to use the city\u2019s tips or hope from a visit from the council’s mobile waste trucks.<\/p>\n

Bins boss Coun Majid Mahmood said the council was halting MHWC visits in Birmingham<\/a> for a week from today, Monday, April 28.<\/p>\n

He said: “The MHWCs will be deployed as part of the wider operational targeting clean-up focusing on the removal of bagged waste and bulky items.<\/p>\n

“The initiative with the MHWC crews will operate on a trial basis for one week.<\/p>\n
