The last social media<\/a> post of Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield revealed the much-loved musician’s excitement for an upcoming UK-wide conversational tour. The Stone Roses<\/a> bassist has passed away at the age of 63, his brother Greg revealed on Facebook<\/a> on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Greg wrote: “IT IS WITH THE HEAVIEST OF HEARTS THAT I HAVE TO ANNOUNCE THE SAD PASSING OF MY BROTHER GARY MANI MOUNFIELD. RIP RKID.” No details about Mani’s death have yet been officially shared.<\/a><\/p>\n

The Crumpsall<\/a> native appeared to have big plans for next year, announcing a solo tour of the UK just over a week ago. Last Thursday, Mani revealed a 69-date schedule that would have seen him visit much of Britain throughout late 2026 and early 2027.<\/p>\n

The tour was titled: The Stone Roses, Primal Scream, and Me – An Intimate Evening with Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield.<\/p>\n

In the caption, Mani wrote: “I think @mm embarking on what could be my final road trip\u2026.. Getting too old now\u2026. Anyway, there’s a lot to go at\u2026. Anybody wanting to hear slaggings off of bandmates \u2026 or titbits of dirt, conjecture & gossip\u2026. I’m not that guy\u2026 I will be giving my skewed vision of my own life, I never did, and would never rat on my comrades\u2026 hope you come out and say hello.””<\/p>\n

Countless fans and fellow musicians have paid tribute <\/a>to the Mancunian legend since the news broke this afternoon. Happy Mondays<\/a> singer Rowetta wrote on X<\/a>: “Going to miss you so much. All my love to the boys, the family & all those who knew & loved him.”<\/p>\n

ART for MCR, an organisation raising money for Manchester charities through musical events, noted the city’s beat “won’t ever be the same”.<\/p>\n

Sharing an image of the musician, they wrote: “Unreal this. Absolutely numbed us. We\u2019re gutted to hear of the passing of Gary \u201cMani\u201d Mounfield \u2014 a true giant of this city and a massive influence on anyone who\u2019s ever picked up a guitar or stepped on a stage round here.<\/p>\n

“Honestly, The groove, the attitude, the spirit\u2026 he shaped so much of the music that shaped us. This one really hurts. Everyone proper proper loved him. I remember crying my eyes out watching them at the Heaton Park<\/a> gigs.”<\/p>\n

They added “All our love goes out to the Mounfield family, the Roses community, and everyone feeling this loss today. Rest easy Mani. Manchester\u2019s beat won\u2019t ever be the same.”<\/p>\n

Mani shot to fame with the Stone Roses but they went their separate ways in 1996 and he went on to join Primal Scream.
