{"id":583045,"date":"2025-11-20T18:22:12","date_gmt":"2025-11-20T18:22:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/583045\/"},"modified":"2025-11-20T18:22:12","modified_gmt":"2025-11-20T18:22:12","slug":"spain-beat-czech-republic-to-reach-davis-cup-semis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/583045\/","title":{"rendered":"Spain beat Czech Republic to reach Davis Cup semis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">MARCEL GRANOLLERS and Pedro Martinez defeated Tomas Machac and Jakub Mensik in tiebreakers to help Spain \u2014 without the injured Carlos Alcaraz \u2014 rally past the Czech Republic and reach the semi-finals of the Davis Cup\u00a0today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">After the teams split the two singles, Granollers and Martinez clinched the quarter-final by winning the doubles 7-6 (8), 7-6 (8) in\u00a0Rome.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Spain will either face Germany or Argentina, who were due to clash in a quarter-final last night after the Morning Star went to\u00a0print.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The 20-year-old Mensik hit 20 aces en route to beating veteran Pablo Carreno Busta 7-5, 6-4, then Jaume Munar won his first Davis Cup singles for Spain by defeating No 17 Jiri Lehecka 6-3,\u00a06-4.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Spain hadn\u2019t reached the semi-finals since 2019, while the fourth-seeded Czechs had missed out since\u00a02014.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Top-ranked Italy faces Belgium in the other semi-final.
