O-I Glass\u2019s recent \u00a3150m investment in state-of-the art, sustainable technology was on show for the Deputy First Minister.<\/p>\n
She toured the site\u2019s newly rebuilt furnace and a second all-new furnace featuring state-of-the-art, energy-efficient technology.<\/p>\n
The Deputy First Minister also heard about O-I\u2019s role in supporting a circular economy through recycling and reuse, and how the proposed EPR scheme could create disproportionate costs for glass producers and encourage switching to less sustainable materials.<\/p>\n
She met with employees and learned how O-I\u2019s partnerships with local schools and workforce organisations are building the skills needed for Scotland\u2019s future manufacturing sector.<\/p>\n
Forbes said: \u201cUsing technology which is the first of its kind in Scotland, O-I Glass is leading the way in sustainable glass production. This is a great example of how Scotland\u2019s manufacturing sector is driving innovation to deliver a green future.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Scottish Government provided \u00a31.4m through our Scottish Industrial Energy Transformation Fund towards the conversion of a furnace which reduces carbon emissions by more than 7000 tonnes per year.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe company\u2019s longstanding commitment to Alloa, and its recent investment of more than \u00a3150 million at the site, is not only vital to local jobs but serves Scotland\u2019s multi-billion pound food and drink sector which is central to our economy.\u201d<\/p>\n
