In a splashy play, the studio has won rights to show the <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/champions-league\/\" id=\"auto-tag_champions-league\" data-tag=\"champions-league\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Champions League<\/a> in the UK and Germany following a heated auction, we have confirmed with sources.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe Guardian was first to break news of the deal, which is set to run from 2027-2031, and is reported to have cost the studio well in excess of the current $1.3 billion deal in place with Warner Bros Discovery\u2019s TNT.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn the UK, Amazon Prime will have first pick of Tuesday matches after Jeff Bezos\u2019 studio beat out bids from other streamers including Disney and Netflix, according to the Guardian. Paramount, which is the home of the Champions League in the U.S., will show all other games in the UK.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tParamount will take over UK Champions League coverage from TNT, meaning local soccer fans will have to fork out yet another subscription to watch games in a market where Sky, TNT, Amazon and DAZN all have a slice of the pie. It\u2019s not clear whether Paramount\u2019s coverage would come with the launch of a new channel, but that seems a live possibility.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn Spain, Telefonica (which shows games on Movistar) is reported to have secured rights to most of the Champions League games until 2031 in a deal pegged at $1.6M. The Guardian reports that Paramount had also been interested in Spain rights.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe auction was run by UC3, the joint venture between European football\u2019s governing body UEFA and the European Clubs Association, which runs the Champions League, and its new commercial rights distributor, Relevent Football Partners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tCoverage on Paramount-owned CBS in the U.S. has proved popular, with presenter Kate Abdo joined by pundits Jamie Carragher, Thierry Henry and Micah Richards for the studio show.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAs we\u2019ve reported, Paramount is expected to put in another massive bid to buy TNT Sports owner Warner Bros Discovery in coming days. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tParamount declined comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Paramount continues to make bold moves.
