Molly’s Game: Aaron Sorkin’s directorial debut (he also wrote it) is the thrilling true story of the woman who ran an underground high-rollers’ poker game involving Hollywood stars and the Russian mob, until the FBI came knocking. Speculation is rife as to who Michael Cera’s ruthless ‘Player X’ movie-star character is based on. (Answer: it’s widely understood to be a combination of Tobey Maguire’s behaviour and Leonardo DiCaprio’s fame.)<\/p>\n

Also new to Netflix this week:<\/strong> Harriet, The Greatest Showman, and Non-Stop.<\/p>\n

John Wick: The second Keanussaince started here. After a post-Matrix lull, Keanu Reeves roared back in a stunt-led revenge spectacular that put his martial arts background to devastating use (if you’re a member of the Russian mafia, at least). As well as reviving the actor’s career, it kickstarted a huge franchise, taking in three sequels, one spin-off (Ballerina) and a TV series (The Continental).

Best movie new to BBC iPlayer this week<\/p>\n

The Untouchables: When they say “they don’t make that kind of film anymore”, this is what they’re talking about \u2013 a lavish, expensive period epic. Kevin Costner was at the peak of his powers playing FBI boy-scout Eliot Ness, who formed a special squad of incorruptible cops to take down Al Capone’s network. It’s operatic, spectacular and rollicking good fun.<\/p>\n
