Human rights groups and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/video\/the-take-2\/2025\/10\/31\/what-does-the-fall-of-el-fasher-mean-for-sudan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">witnesses report<\/a> that <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2025\/10\/27\/africa\/sudan-rsf-captures-el-fasher-base-intl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the RSF\u2019s takeover of El Fasher<\/a>, which has a population of 252,000, in late October involved mass killings, kidnappings and widespread sexual violence.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, United Nations humanitarian aid chief Tom Fletcher, returning from Sudan, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/UNReliefChief\/status\/1991094394665959426\" target=\"_blank\">described the Darfur region<\/a> as \u201can absolute horror show,\u201d saying El Fasher has been turned into \u201ca crime scene.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The country has been engulfed in a civil war for more than two and a half years between the Sudanese Armed Forces, loyal to the government in Khartoum, and the paramilitary RSF group.<\/p>\n<p>The United Nations has previously blamed the RSF for ethnic massacres and mass displacement, leading to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cjel2nn22z9o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">famine and accusations of genocide<\/a>\u00a0in Darfur.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/GettyImages-2236712120-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7532934\"  \/>The country has been engulfed in a civil war for more than two and a half years between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary RSF group. | AFP\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The Sudanese ambassador to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/sudan-urges-eu-stop-selling-weapons-uae-civil-war\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EU\u00a0told POLITICO this week<\/a>\u00a0that European-made weapons are fueling atrocities, and called on EU countries to halt arms sales to the United Arab Emirates, which a U.N. panel earlier this year <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/un-panel-investigates-emirati-links-seized-weapons-darfur-2025-04-29\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">alleged is backing<\/a> the RSF.<\/p>\n<p>A UAE government official told POLITICO that Abu Dhabi \u201ccategorically rejects any claims of providing any form of support to either warring party since the onset of the civil war,\u201d adding it \u201ccondemns atrocities committed by both\u201d sides in the conflict.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The statement comes amid escalating violence in western Darfur and other regions in Sudan.
