Motorists faced rush-hour traffic chaos after a five-vehicle crash closed a main Birmingham<\/a> Road and led to snarl-ups on surrounding streets.<\/p>\n

The crash took place on Chester Road near Castle Vale<\/a>, which links Spitfire Island with the M6<\/a>\u2019s Junction 5 for Castle Bromwich, shortly before 3pm.<\/p>\n

Five vehicles, believed to be two cars, two vans and a lorry collided into each other shutting the road headed towards the motorway.<\/p>\n

Drone images show the extent of the traffic issues caused on nearby roads.<\/p>\n

West Midlands Roads posted on X and said: \u201cSpitfire Island Incident.<\/p>\n

\u201cRoad closed towards M6. Plan Ahead: Allow extra time for your journey and consider alternative routes where possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

National Express West Midlands confirmed its 28, 64, 71 and 96 services were diverting towards Castle Bromwich ONLY via: Fort Parkway, Bromford Lane and Coleshill Road.<\/p>\n

The road was cleared and reopened at around 5.30pm with West Midlands Roads saying: \u201cSome residual delays remain in the area as traffic returns to normal. Please allow extra time for your journey.\u201d<\/p>\n

A spokesman for West Midlands Police<\/a> said: \u201cWe were called to reports of a collision involving five vehicles on Chester Road, Birmingham, just before 3pm.<\/p>\n
