Officers are urgently appealing for witnesses who may have seen anything suspicious at around 5am today<\/p>\n

Police are investigating reports of a serious assault on a busy street in Bristol this morning.<\/p>\n

Officers were called to the scene on Ashley Road<\/a> by the ambulance service at around 5.30am today (November 22).<\/p>\n

They have since confirmed that one person is in hospital in a serious but stable condition and urgently appealing for witnesses to come forward.<\/p>\n

A section of Ashley Road, near The Criterion pub and a number of other businesses, has been closed in both directions, with officers taping off the scene and manning the area. Photos from the scene show a number of police cars and ambulance in attendance.<\/p>\n

Traffic<\/a> is currently being diverted down Grosvenor Road or up Ashley hill.<\/p>\n

A police spokesperson said: “Detectives are appealing for witnesses to a serious assault in St Pauls in the early hours of this morning (Saturday 22 November)<\/p>\n

“We were called at around 5.30am by the ambulance service to a report of a man who had been assaulted.<\/p>\n

“One person is currently in hospital in serious but stable condition.<\/p>\n

“A scene is in place near the Criterion in Ashley Road, in Bristol, while enquiries are being carried out.<\/p>\n

“Members of the public can expect to see a heightened police presence in the area today and anyone with any concerns is encouraged to speak to their Neighbourhood Policing Team.<\/p>\n

“If you were in the area from 5am and witnessed anything suspicious, or have relevant footage which could aid our enquiries, call us.<\/p>\n
