After fears that Gemma Collins’ agonising \u201cgallbladder attack\u201d<\/a> could have been brought on by fat jabs, she is now \u201cmicrodosing\u201d weight-loss drug Mounjaro since losing an impressive 3\u00bdst.<\/p>\n

The TOWIE<\/a> star, 44, temporarily came off the medication \u2013 which was originally designed to combat type 2 diabetes \u2013 after she was left in \u201cexcruciating\u201d pain in August. Gemma, who has dropped from a size 26 to a size 20 since starting the weight-loss injections a year ago, revealed how \u201cshe fell to the floor\u201d in pain while celebrating fianc\u00e9 Rami Hawash\u2019s birthday at a race track.<\/p>\n

A scan revealed she was suffering from gallstones, which have been linked to Mounjaro<\/a> use, but the star now plans to follow the new trend of taking smaller doses of the drug in a bid to stay trim.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had to stop the jabs for a bit because I had a gallbladder attack in August, but they\u2019ve assured me that it\u2019s not actually linked to Mounjaro,\u201d Gemma said. \u201cI\u2019ve given it a rest and I\u2019ve really been managing what I\u2019ve been eating. But I think I\u2019m going to start microdosing because I feel with the microdosing, you don\u2019t get all the [side] effects.\u201d<\/p>\n

A spokeswoman for Eli Lilly, which makes Mounjaro, said, \u201cPatient safety is Lilly\u2019s top priority and we actively monitor, evaluate and report safety information for all our medicines to [regulatory agency] MHRA.<\/p>\n

The Mounjaro (tirzepatide) Patient Information Leaflet warns that gallstones is a common side effect of tirzepatide when used for weight management (may affect up to 1 in 10 people), and that cholecystitis (infection of the gallbladder) and gallstones when used for type 2 diabetes, are uncommon side effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 people). Anyone experiencing side effects when taking any Lilly medicine should consult their doctor or other healthcare professional, and should ensure that they are getting genuine Lilly medicine.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gemma has hailed the weekly injections \u2013 which suppress the user\u2019s appetite \u2013 as \u201clife-changing\u201d. \u201cI\u2019ve lost about 3\u00bdst and kept it off. I just feel good,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m never going to look stick thin. I don\u2019t want to look stick thin. It\u2019s not who I am. But it\u2019s about being healthier. So it\u2019s all going in the right direction.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI went up to the maximum dose,\u201d she said.\u201cBut my favourite dose was 2.5mg. So I\u2019m going to go microdosing all the way on that now.\u201d At her heaviest, Gemma weighed 23st \u2013 but her weight has plummeted since starting the injections.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll always love my food, but it [the injection] stops me,\u201d she said. \u201cI could only have two or three mouthfuls of roast dinner. I went about six weeks without losing a thing, but I was being lazy, not making scrambled eggs, and having a Twix for breakfast.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt first you get tired, but your body gets used to it. I still want to lose 6st from my heaviest, but I\u2019m not in a rush doing it this time. I\u2019m doing this the right way.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been big for a long time. And actually at first I was so shocked by the rapid weight loss. It was weird<\/a> for my mind. When I looked in the mirror, I looked so different. And I was like, \u2018Woah, am I ready for this?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2019, Gemma consulted cosmetic surgeon Dr Simon Ourian about having fat \u201csucked out\u201d of her face. She is now hoping to achieve the so-called \u201cOzempic face\u201d \u2013 where those who have shed lots of weight look thinner around the jaw.<\/p>\n

She said, \u201cDr Ourian said the weight on my face is hereditary \u2013 some people just have weight on their face. So please, give me Ozempic face. If that\u2019s going to happen to me, I\u2019m all for it!\u201d<\/p>\n

Last week, Gemma described having the \u201ctoughest week of my life\u201d after her beloved mum Joan was hospitalised with pneumonia. In 2016, Joan was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ, where cells in the breast tissue lining become cancerous. And in May last year, a petrified Gemma had to call an ambulance after her mum stopped breathing.<\/p>\n

Speaking prior to Joan\u2019s most recent hospitalisation, Gemma said, \u201cMum and Dad are living with me now. My mum had a lot of health scares last year. It was really shocking because they said that she had heart failure and they weren\u2019t going to resuscitate her. \u201cI said, \u2018Hang on a minute. We were [out] last night eating dauphinois and mussels!\u2019 It was just bizarre.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gemma said having her parents move into her home was \u201cgreat\u201d as they could spend more time together. She added, \u201cMy mum has always said she wants us all to live together.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gemma and Rami, who got engaged in February 2024, are planning to wed next year. The wedding was initially delayed due to multiple family illnesses, but Gemma has promised fans it will \u201cabsolutely\u201d take place in 2026.<\/p>\n
