It’s long been the most exclusive nightclub in London<\/a>, frequented by the likes of Princess Diana<\/a>, Mick Jagger<\/a>, Leonardo DiCaprio<\/a> , John Wayne and Frank Sinatra over its storied history.<\/p>\n

But two people no longer welcome at the legendary Annabel\u2019s hotspot are Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson<\/a> \u2013 with staff being told that the scandal-hit couple should no longer be allowed inside.<\/p>\n

Last night, a source said: \u2018Sarah and Andrew at this point would be turned away. Their type of notoriety is not what the club needs.\u2019<\/p>\n

Andrew has never formally been a member of the \u00a33,750-a-year Mayfair club, but the source added: \u2018He and Sarah always enjoyed an arrangement where they can come and go as they please.\u2019<\/p>\n

The insider admitted the ban could make things \u2018very awkward\u2019 on the door, particularly as the couple\u2019s daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie, are members, and so entitled to sign in guests.<\/p>\n

\u2018There is some trepidation that actually Annabel\u2019s is among the few remaining places the couple might feel they can still go,\u2019 the source added. \u2018It\u2019s very delicate but there are a whole web of membership secretaries who can have quiet words with the right people to let it be known to the girls.\u2019<\/p>\n

The ban will come as a blow to Andrew given his long links to the venue. He had even intended to have his stag do there in 1986, but moved it at the last minute after the press got wind of the plans. Sarah and Diana \u2013 unaware of the change \u2013 arrived dressed as police officer stripograms, intending to gatecrash the party.<\/p>\n

Andrew celebrated his 30th birthday there in 1990 but has famously \u2013 and humiliatingly \u2013 been turned away before. A doorman refused him entry later that decade for arriving in an open-necked shirt and jeans, in defiance of the club\u2019s strict dress code.<\/p>\n

Annabel’s, which is based in Mayfair and charges \u00a33,750-a-year, has been frequented by the likes of Princess Diana , Mick Jagger, Leonardo DiCaprio, John Wayne and Frank Sinatra over the years<\/p>\n

The ban extends to the four sister venues also owned by \u2018king of Mayfair\u2019 Richard Caring\u2019s Birley Group, including Mark\u2019s \u2013 famous for its cigar terrace \u2013 and Harry\u2019s Bar.<\/p>\n

The source added: \u2018Both Annabel\u2019s and Mark\u2019s have very public facing entrances, so it would not be a great look for the Birley Group to have Andrew or Sarah pictured outside.\u2019 In 2018, the couple were pictured arriving at Mark\u2019s Club on an intimate dinner date and in 2023 Princess Eugenie celebrated her birthday there with her mother, sister and brother-in-law Edo Mapelli Mozzi.<\/p>\n

Last year, Andrew was pictured by The Mail on Sunday leaving Harry\u2019s Bar, having apparently lunched with his friend and ex-business partner, billionaire sports tycoon Johan Eliasch.<\/p>\n

Annabel\u2019s was founded in 1963 by impresario Mark Birley, who named it after his then-wife Lady Annabel. It soon became Mayfair\u2019s most glamorous late-night haunt, a favourite party venue of the late Princess Margaret and famously the only nightclub the late Queen Elizabeth ever attended.<\/p>\n

A spokesman for the Birley clubs declined to comment on Andrew\u2019s ban last night but a source close to the company confirmed that the pair were not welcome.<\/p>\n

Last week Sarah and her daughters were notably absent from the annual party unveiling Annabel\u2019s extravagant festive front door.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s theme is Narnia, with the entrance on Berkeley Square transformed into an ornate wardrobe, with doors opening to reveal a winter realm of snow-dusted trees and icicles \u2013 with a lion fiercely guarding the front door.<\/p>\n

Maybe that will be enough to deter Andrew, as he lays low at Royal Lodge, Windsor, in preparation for his move to his exile cottage in Sandringham, Norfolk, early in the New Year.<\/p>\n
