The Newsreader, the acclaimed Australian period drama starring Anna Torv and Sam Reid, is now streaming<\/a> in the UK on Netflix<\/a>. With a talented cast and an entertaining depiction of a “cutthroat” industry, there’s a reason why this series won admirers.<\/p>\n

The series<\/a> follows the personal and professional lives of several employees at a newsroom for an Australian company in the 1980s, capturing the intense moments where privacy spills into public.<\/p>\n

After three popular seasons, which aired between 2021 and 2025, the series is now streaming in the UK on Netflix having been added to the ‘worth the wait’ section. It’s also still available on BBC iPlayer<\/a>, so you have plenty of options.<\/p>\n

Created and co-written by Michael Lucas, the logline reads: “1986: The big news is behind the camera. In a world on the cusp of change, star anchor Helen and rookie reporter Dale join forces to survive the cut-throat world of commercial TV.”<\/p>\n

Following the conclusion of its third season, The Age Australia<\/a> called the series “consistently compelling” as they deemed it “one of the best dramas of the decade”, while The Guardian<\/a> dubbed it “engaging”. <\/p>\n

Elsewhere on Netflix, it was recently announced that Brighton-set crime drama<\/a> Cuffs would be coming to the service later this month, while psychological thriller The Beast in Me has surged to the top of the streamer’s TV chart<\/a>.<\/p>\n
