As the weather gets colder and damper, a cosy winter getaway could be the perfect way to live out your The Holiday-themed fantasies. Yes, an all inclusive holiday with sand and sea can be great. But what\u2019s not also to love about a cosy fireside, traditional English pub and brisk seaside walk?<\/p>\n

Holidaymakers in the capital find themselves in luck. The UK\u2019s best winter holiday location is just a matter of – 90 – minutes away from London.<\/p>\n

The commuter seaside town took top spot on Cond\u00e9 Nast’s<\/a> list of the best winter holiday getaways in the UK for. The travel mag has collated 24 of the best spots to soak up some winter snow, sun or rain.<\/p>\n

Victorian town Margate<\/a> is known for its sprawling sandy beach and buzzing high street. While it is generally a popular summer destination, those who enjoy a cool sea-breeze may find visiting in the colder months just as enjoyable.<\/p>\n

Margate is the perfect spot for mooching around shops and cafes. The Turner Contemporary art gallery is also a lovely spot to soak in some culture at its free exhibitions of international artists.<\/p>\n

If you want to take a dip in the water, the main beach is right by the town centre. There is also a man-made tidal seawater tidal pool for anyone visiting at low tide, or those who don\u2019t want to brave the open sea.<\/p>\n

Along the promenade are classic amusement rides like a carousel and helter-skelter. While this is a very busy area in the summer, winter visitors may have a much easier time getting about – even if it is a bit cold to get an ice cream.<\/p>\n

Margate also has a renowned food and drink scene which has only grown in recent years. It is home to an array of neighbourhood restaurants and bars, so there is something for everyone.<\/p>\n

Intimate restaurant Bottega Caruso serves up homemade pasta, while Peter\u2019s Fish Factory is a great spot to grab some fish and chips to enjoy by the seaside.<\/p>\n

Average journey times are around one-hour-and-45 minutes long from London Victoria. Faster trains will get you there in around 90 minutes.<\/p>\n
