\u201cDeath of a Unicorn\u201d star Jenna Ortega<\/a> has just announced the birth of a career pivot: directing. The actress\/producer told V magazine<\/a> that she plans on directing her own original film<\/a> that has been in the works for 10 years. <\/p>\n

\u201cI have a script that I\u2019ve known that I was going to make for almost 10 years<\/a>,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s weird because it\u2019s something that I thought of when I was younger and when I first started out in this field, and it\u2019s only now that I\u2019m actually starting to take the steps to get it made.\u201d <\/p>\n

Ortega will make her producing debut on Season 2<\/a>\u00a0of Netflix series \u201cWednesday.\u201d Ortega also has made her passion for screenwriting publicly known: she infamously said in 2023<\/a> that she pushed to rewrite the initial scripts for the hit Netflix series. Ortega told Dax Shepard at the time during his \u201cArmchair Expert<\/a>\u201d podcast that she had to \u201cput my foot down\u201d and \u201cstarted changing lines<\/a>\u201d that she disagreed with on set.<\/p>\n

Ortega later told\u00a0Vanity Fair<\/a> that she \u201ccould have used [her] words better in describing all of that\u201d especially amid the WGA strike<\/a>. \u201cI think, oftentimes, I\u2019m such a rambler. I think it was hard because I felt like had I represented the situation better, it probably would\u2019ve been received better,\u201d Ortega said. <\/p>\n

The actress added that the experience with changing scripts led her to start producing. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s natural to be fearful of signing your life away and wanting some sort of agency or wanting confirmation that your voice would be heard,\u201d Ortega said of joining the series. \u201cI\u2019m aware of my position as an actor. I know that I\u2019m not in charge\u2026.But I think with someone like Wednesday, who is in every scene, it only makes sense for that person to be that involved in what\u2019s going on behind the scenes because she\u2019s onscreen every second of the project.\u201d<\/p>\n
