Indian architecture studio 23 Degrees Design Shift has created a five-bedroom weekend home<\/a> surrounded by a moat near Hyderabad<\/a>, India.<\/p>\n

Named Antriya, the 1,350-square-metre (14,530-square-foot) holiday home for a multi-generational family is located on a five-acre site in Muchintal on the outskirts of Hyderabad.<\/p>\n

23 Degrees Design Shift<\/a> carved out a moat-like channel around the house to prevent snakes and other creatures from crawling in. Within the protective moat, the two-storey, five-bedroom house is arranged around three large khammam sandstone walls that form its primary structure.<\/p>\n

“The whole house in a nutshell is designed using three linear stone walls providing a sense of direction, sense of privacy and sense of cosiness through their relative scale,” the studio explained.<\/p>\n

The first sandstone wall stands alongside the home’s main living and entertaining spaces.<\/p>\n

On the ground floor it rises alongside an open, veranda-like seating area that opens out onto an outdoor conversation pit. Above this is a secondary seating area as well as the principal bedroom is reached by a sculptural spiral staircase.<\/p>\n

The second wall runs across the home separating the living areas \u2013 kitchen, living and dining spaces, from four en-suite bedrooms on the ground floor.<\/p>\n

Finally, a third wall\u00a0extends from the house towards the entrance driveway and forms the main structure of an adjoining pool house.<\/p>\n

All side of the home are shaded by eight- to 10-feet-deep plant-covered cantilevered slabs that help reduce heat gain.<\/p>\n

Inside, the space is characterised by materials that set the home apart from a “regular city home”.<\/p>\n

“Having lived in plush city homes all their life, this weekend home is conceived as a space which brings the user as close as possible to a true, genuine and less-processed form of the materials,” said 23 Degrees Design Shift.<\/p>\n

The team chose lime-based plaster for the walls and ceilings, paired with Markapur slate flooring.<\/p>\n

“Markapur slate for flooring offers a smooth yet undulating surface, encouraging the users to walk barefoot,” said the studio.<\/p>\n

Tactile materials such as live-edge furniture and jute furnishings are dotted around the house, teamed with black metal hardware and light fixtures.<\/p>\n

Around the house, 23 Degrees Design Shift covered the site with open lawns strewn with coconut trees, shrubs and a vineyard. A dense plantation of taller trees was created along the site’s edges.<\/p>\n

Apart from the vegetation, the team added a cricket practice area and an ATV mud track for the client’s children.<\/p>\n

23 Degrees Design Shift is an architecture and design practice based in Hyderabad, India. It is led by Raghuram alongside Srikanth Reddy and Neelesh Kumar.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in Hyderabad, Iki Builds completed a home crafted with local materials and construction rubble<\/a> and local practice A01 Architects created a contemporary sculptural home drawing on traditional architecture<\/a>.<\/p>\n
