Just 90 minutes away from the UK thanks to Eurostar, Brits have been visiting this pretty Flemish city in their droves since the route opened over 30 years ago now.<\/p>\n
With its stunning medieval architecture, cobbled streets, fascinating history straddling two countries, this pretty city is a weekend destination must do but is perfectly manageable as a day trip thanks to its 90 minute journey time from the UK.<\/p>\n
The city boast dozens of independent shops,<\/a> fabulous markets and one of the best and biggest shopping centres in Europe<\/a> close to the station, a massive 67,800 square metres of shopping paradise boasting top brands, independents and food options galore.<\/p>\n In fact this Flemish city is a fantastic foodie<\/a> destination with plenty of local specialities to try and some of the best beers<\/a> in Europe.<\/p>\n The stunningand compact city centre dates back to the 11th century when it was first founded as a fortification.<\/p>\n Located in the Hauts-de-France region, Lille is perfect for anyone who wants to explore beyond Paris<\/a>. Lille is famous for its beautiful Flemish-inspired architecture, vibrant cultural scene and the massive Braderie de Lille flea market<\/p>\n \u00a0It is also known for its unique gastronomy, including local specialties like Mimolette cheese and flat waffles, and is considered a major hub connecting France and Belgium.<\/p>\n But back to the market. The Grande Braderie de Lille<\/a>, Europe’s largest flea market, takes place once a year on the first weekend in September. The event starts on Saturday at 8am \u00a0and concludes on Sunday at 6 PM.\u00a0<\/p>\n Colourful banners flutter from the windows and the scent of golden fries mingles with that of vintage vinyls, and the shouts of bargain hunters. Lille truly comes alive with its most iconic event.<\/p>\n But you don’t have to visit in Spetember. Lille<\/a> has a large weekly market at the Marche de Wazemmes held every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday from 7am to 2pm.The market features a covered hall with food stalls, as well as numerous stalls selling fresh produce, flowers, and a variety of other goods too.<\/p>\n And of course at this time of year is the legendary Lille Christmas market<\/a> which runs from November 20 through to December 29 every day.<\/p>\n And then of course there is Westfield Euroille. Ideally located in the heart of Lille, a crossroad between Paris, Brussels<\/a>, and London, the shopping centre offers exclusive brands, restaurants, and other modern retail amenities.<\/p>\n Westfield Eurolille<\/a>, designed by architect Jean Nouvel, was fully renovated in 2015 with a bright and warm design, accentuated by wooden flooring and playful lighting and stands as a testament to modern shopping culture in Lille.<\/p>\n This expansive shopping mall is not just a place to shop; it is a bustling hub of activity where locals and tourists alike come to enjoy a variety of experiences.<\/p>\n With over 130 shops, including renowned brands and unique boutiques, visitors can explore everything from the latest fashion trends to the most innovative tech gadgets.
