{"id":589285,"date":"2025-11-23T19:02:26","date_gmt":"2025-11-23T19:02:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/589285\/"},"modified":"2025-11-23T19:02:26","modified_gmt":"2025-11-23T19:02:26","slug":"soundhouse-winter-festival-kicks-off-next-week-the-nen-north-edinburgh-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/589285\/","title":{"rendered":"Soundhouse Winter Festival Kicks off next week\u00a0 \u2013 The NEN \u2013 North Edinburgh News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Dates: Thursday 27 November to Monday 1 December 2025\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">www.soundhousewinterfest.com\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nen.press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-4.png?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"468\" height=\"312\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1763924542_360_image-4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-217936\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>There is just one week to go before the Soundhouse Winter Festival kicks off in Edinburgh, thanks to support from The National Lottery through Creative Scotland.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Festival Programme is packed with big names and up and coming bands from across Scotland including 2024\u2019s Scottish Jazz Vocalist of the Year <strong>Niki King; <\/strong>experimental folk band <strong>Constant Follower <\/strong>who were longlisted for this year\u2019s Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Award; genre blending spoken word artist, rapper, and rising star <strong>Bee Asha; <\/strong>and guitarist <strong>Chris Amer <\/strong>and his Sextet (<strong>Matt Carmichael<\/strong>, <strong>Fergus McCreadie<\/strong>, <strong>Gus Stirrat, Stephen Henderson <\/strong>and <strong>Mhairi Marwick<\/strong>) performing music from their new collection <strong>Making Peace With What Is<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The festival\u2019s programme also includes early evening concerts with harpist and lead vocalist <strong>Dara Dubh <\/strong>performing fan favourites and new tracks from her forthcoming album, who will be joined by <strong>Toni McVey <\/strong>on drums, <strong>Eve Simpson <\/strong>on keys\/vocals and <strong>Brad Phillips <\/strong>on doublebass. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Also performing will be multi-instrumentalist and folk singer <strong>Cahalen Morrison <\/strong>performing songs from his forthcoming album with Fergus McCreadie (keys) and Corrie Dick (drums); and jazz saxophonist <strong>Rachel Duns <\/strong>whose music ranges from blues and soul, to the psychedelic sounds of the 1960s.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">In addition, award-winning Scottish composer and guitarist <strong>Graeme Stephen <\/strong>will present his score for the 1927 silent film <strong>Metropolis<\/strong>, performed by Stephen on guitar and a classical string quartet led by Fiona Winning on viola with Tom Hanky (violin), George Smith (violin), and Robert Irvine (cello). <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Graeme will also be giving a non-participatory masterclass in <strong>Developing Concepts for Composition, Improvisation and Practice, <\/strong>for learners to explore creative ways to turn their ideas into compositions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nen.press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-3.png?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"468\" height=\"312\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1763924546_251_image-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-217935\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Milele Collective who will perform as part of this year\u2019s Spotlight concert. This young five-piece includes Alex Handyside (guitar), Zoe Downs (saxophone), bass player Ashwari Panesar, Finlay Mayers-Porras (drums) and Laura Oghagbon (vocals).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Over the weekend, audiences will also be treated to an afternoon concert from Scottish\/Egyptian instrumentalists and composers <strong>The Ayoub Sisters <\/strong>who rose to stardom after their debut album premiered at No.1 in the Official Classical Charts. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Plus, three emerging artists playing in this year\u2019s Spotlight concert, showcasing the very best up and coming jazz musicians in Scotland. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">They include the <strong>Milele Collective <\/strong>a young five-piece making waves on the Scottish scene with their jazz, latin and afro grooves; guitarist and double bass player <strong>Timmy Allan <\/strong>who won the BBC Scotland Young Jazz Musician of the Year Award in 2024 and this year\u2019s Alan McAuley Jazz Award; and <strong>The Ewan Johnston Trio <\/strong>formed of pianist Ewan Johnston, Christopher Quinnon on bass and BBC Scotland Young Jazz Musician of the Year Roan Anderson on drums.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">In addition, cellist and improvisor <strong>Simone Seales <\/strong>will be giving an <strong>Improvisation Workshop <\/strong>for beginners on how to make sound without musical notation, open to amateur or experienced instrumentalists, vocalists or musicians from any other discipline.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Douglas Robertson and Jane-Ann Purdy, co-producers said:<\/strong> <strong>\u201cAfter last year\u2019s multi-genre celebration of the Scottish music scene, we are delighted to be back for our second annual Soundhouse Winter Festival. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe\u2019ll be presenting jazz, pop, rap, classical, soul, funk, folk, trad, and many points where those categories intersect.
