{"id":589406,"date":"2025-11-23T20:29:12","date_gmt":"2025-11-23T20:29:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/589406\/"},"modified":"2025-11-23T20:29:12","modified_gmt":"2025-11-23T20:29:12","slug":"for-good-opens-to-226-million-globally-fourth-best-of-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/589406\/","title":{"rendered":"For Good Opens to $226 Million Globally, Fourth Best of Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThis weekend, the languishing box office has been changed for the better with \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/wicked-for-good\/\" id=\"auto-tag_wicked-for-good\" data-tag=\"wicked-for-good\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wicked: For Good<\/a>,\u201d which powered to $226 million globally. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThose ticket sales rank as the fourth-biggest worldwide debut of 2025, behind Disney\u2019s \u201cLilo &amp; Stitch\u201d remake ($341 million), \u201cJurassic World Rebirth\u201d ($322 million) and \u201cA Minecraft Movie\u201d ($313 million) and ahead of \u201cSuperman\u201d ($220 million) and \u201cThe Fantastic Four\u201d ($218 million). <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tUniversal\u2019s cinematic take on the second half of \u201cWicked,\u201d a revisionist look at \u201cThe Wizard of Oz,\u201d has earned $76 million overseas and $150 million domestically. The film set a worldwide, international and North American record for the biggest Broadway adaptation, smashing the benchmark held by 2024\u2019s \u201cWicked\u201d with $164.2 million worldwide, $50.2 million internationally and $112.5 million domestically.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSince \u201cWicked\u201d is established I.P. this time around, \u201cFor Good\u201d was able to grow its fanbase internationally. That\u2019s important because the first film was much bigger in North America, accounting for 62% of revenues. \u201cWicked\u201d became a global hit with $758 million, including $474 million domestically and $283 million overseas. However, the hope is that ticket sales are more evenly split for the second adventure. \u201cFor Good\u201d opened in 78 markets, with the top-earning territories including the United Kingdom and Ireland ($24.4 million), Australia ($8.6 million) and Germany ($4.1 million).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThis is a sensational opening,\u201d says David A. Gross, who runs the movie consulting firm Franchise Entertainment Research. \u201cThe only limitation, relatively speaking, is the series\u2019 overseas performance.\u00a0\u2018The Wizard of Oz\u2019\u00a0is a classic American story, with a natural domestic skew.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tJon M. Chu directed \u201cWicked: For Good,\u201d which concludes the journey of Elphaba \u2014 who begins the film having been demonized as the Wicked Witch of the West \u2014 and Glinda \u2014 who has been branded by Ozians as Glinda the Good. Although the second half of \u201cWicked\u201d is darker than the first and doesn\u2019t have as many memorable songs, \u201cFor Good\u201d is expected to remain a draw throughout the holiday season. It\u2019s been a rocky year at the box office \u2014 with big-budget bombs aplenty and overall ticket sales just barely ahead of 2024.
