New apartments are planned in Eccles town centre with \u2018generous private\u2019 balconies.<\/p>\n

ForHousing has applied to build a nine-story building off College Croft and Fox Street, to be used as an \u2018extra care lite\u2019 development.<\/p>\n

It is based near the existing College Croft residential tower block, with a distance of more than 14m planned from the proposed new building.<\/p>\n

If approved, the new site would have a total of 46 apartments and two communal rooms, along with staff facilities, six parking spaces, and other works around the building.<\/p>\n

Bosses behind the plans say they hope the social care facility will \u2018support the ongoing improvement of Eccles<\/a> as a place where people want to live, work, and visit.\u2019<\/p>\n

According to the ForHousing website, extra care housing gives residents the chance to live in their own home with \u2018a level of independence that\u2019s right for you.\u2019<\/p>\n

They are aiming to create \u2018highly desirable\u2019 homes for new and existing customers.<\/p>\n

Planning reports state that the building will be designed with ‘high quality’ apartments and residents able to make use of communal lounges and activity spaces.<\/p>\n

It would be located close to the mix of transport options available in Eccles town centre, which is served by a tram stop, train station, and bus routes.<\/p>\n

The majority of homes in the building would be one-bedroom apartments, with a smaller number having two bedrooms.<\/p>\n

It is expected that most residents in the development would be older people who are more likely to be in need of care.<\/p>\n

A previous application to build a seven-storey extra care lite development with 36 apartments was approved by Salford<\/a> council in December, but this was amended by the applicant and re-submitted as the new application.<\/p>\n

Key changes from the previously approved proposals include the removal of a bridge link to College Croft and both ground floor retail units.<\/p>\n

There are major plans in the pipeline for Eccles which recently took a huge step forward<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Work has now started to demolish part of the shopping centre, which includes 14 retail units, the multi-storey car park, and the market hall, marking the first key phase of the town\u2019s regeneration.<\/p>\n

It comes after Salford council bought the shopping centre in December 2022 for \u00a34.15m, and launched a vision for change after concerns over empty shops and falling numbers of visitors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A planning application has been submitted to Salford councilNew homes are planned in Eccles.
