Some 26 businesses in Greater Manchester were forced to call in administrators just last month.<\/p>\n
That list includes Safeway Infrastructure Support Limited, a long-time rail and metro constructor, based in Manchester. It also includes companies based in Greater Manchester\u2019s industry hotspots \u2013 like Datatechnics, a software company of more than a decade based at Salford<\/a>\u2019s Media City, and Enthalpy Ltd, a company based at the Deva City Office Park hailed as \u2018the heart of the Northern powerhouse\u2019 at the edge of Manchester city centre<\/a>.<\/p>\n Rising national insurance contributions, a continued cost-of-living crisis, and an uncertain financial future for the UK has led many businesses to close their doors in recent years.<\/p>\n Insolvency-related activity rose by 26 per cent in the north west in October, says R3, the UK\u2019s restructuring, turnaround and insolvency trade body. R3\u2019s analysis of data provided by Creditsafe shows a rise in the businesses going into administration, from 350 in September to 442 in October.<\/p>\n The north west figure is the second highest in the UK, behind Greater London with 474 instances. October\u2019s figure also marks the highest monthly total since April 2025\u2019s figure of 473, and an increase of one per cent on the same period in 2024.<\/p>\n And Greater Manchester businesses have been no exception to these huge challenges.<\/p>\n Fran Henshaw, chair of R3 in the North West viewed the statistics as disappointing but not surprising. She explained: \u201cThe pressure on businesses remains considerable.<\/p>\n \u201cThey are facing higher employment, energy and materials costs, creditors are taking more proactive measures, national growth is sluggish, the cost of borrowing remains relatively high and customer spending is subdued. In short, many businesses are battling for their very survival – and at R3 we will continue to support them wherever we can.\u201d<\/p>\n Tom Russell, President of R3, the UK\u2019s restructuring, insolvency and turnaround trade body, explained: \u201cA company is insolvent when it doesn\u2019t have enough money to pay its debts or outgoings when they are due.<\/p>\n \u201cOne option open to an insolvent company is to enter administration. This involves the appointment of a licensed insolvency practitioner as administrator to take control of the business. The administrator has the primary objective of saving the company as a going concern, but if that is not possible, they can also sell parts of a business or other assets to fulfil their duty to achieve the best possible outcome for creditors in what are often complicated and difficult circumstances.\u201d<\/p>\n Bury<\/a>, Oldham<\/a>, Wigan<\/a>, and Rochdale<\/a> did not have any businesses going into administration last month. Some companies that have gone into administration in this list might not have their head offices in Greater Manchester directly, but have appointed administrators in the region.<\/p>\n Here, we take a look at the companies based in and around Greater Manchester that have gone into administration in the month of October, 2025.<\/p>\n \u201cThe legislation gives administrators wide-ranging powers to trade and manage a business and provides protection from legal action to give the administrator time to consider options and do their work,\u201d adds the R3 President. \u201cThe administrator will build a detailed understanding of the company finances, including its income streams, outgoings, liabilities, and obligations.<\/p>\n \u201cThey identify the underlying reasons for the company\u2019s difficulties and explore potential solutions, for example, cost reductions, renegotiating debts with creditors, restructuring the business, or exploring the possibility of new investment.<\/p>\n \u201cAdministration usually lasts for a year, although this can be extended.
