{"id":589725,"date":"2025-11-24T00:21:14","date_gmt":"2025-11-24T00:21:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/589725\/"},"modified":"2025-11-24T00:21:14","modified_gmt":"2025-11-24T00:21:14","slug":"italy-wins-third-straight-davis-cup-with-2-0-victory-over-spain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/589725\/","title":{"rendered":"Italy wins third straight Davis Cup with 2-0 victory over Spain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Italy completes Davis Cup hat-trick by beating Spain 2-0 in Bologna, winning without top players Sinner and Musetti while Spain missed Alcaraz<\/p>\n<p><strong>ITALY <\/strong>secured their third consecutive Davis Cup title with a commanding 2-0 victory over Spain in Sunday\u2019s final.<\/p>\n<p>Matteo Berrettini set the tone with a straightforward 6-3, 6-4 win against Pablo Carreno Busta in the opening singles match.<\/p>\n<p>Flavio Cobolli then sealed the championship by rallying from a set down to defeat Jaume Munar 1-6, 7-6 (7\/5), 7-5.<\/p>\n<p>The victory meant Italy claimed the trophy without needing to play the doubles rubber.<\/p>\n<p>Captain Filippo Volandri\u2019s team achieved the remarkable feat without dropping a single match throughout the finals.<\/p>\n<p>Italy competed without their two highest-ranked players, world top-10 stars Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti.<\/p>\n<p>Spain also missed their top player, world number one Carlos Alcaraz, who was sidelined with a hamstring injury.<\/p>\n<p>International Tennis Federation president David Haggerty defended player participation before the final.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s this false feeling out there that top players don\u2019t represent their nation.
